  2. Our Mission • A Servants Heart (ASH) is a student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership."

  3. Our Projects • Hosting Blood Drives • Sewing Blankets through Project Linus • Collecting paper, plastic bags, and plastic bottles for recycling

  4. Blood Drives • 5 blood drives will be held throughout the year to help support our local blood bank • Our next blood drive will be held Tuesday Nov 25th • We will also host blood drives January 3rd, March 27th, and May 22nd • Anyone willing to donate may participate

  5. Blood Drive Goals and Updates • Collect 148 whole blood donations and 24 double donations or a total of 210 total Products • After our first blood drive we have collected 36 whole blood donations, 6 double donations, and a total of 50 Products

  6. Project Linus • The mission of Project Linus is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” • We assist our local area chapter by stitching blankets that will be distributed throughout the community.

  7. Project Linus Goals and Updates • Our goal is to sew 35 complete blankets • So far we have started around 20 blankets • On Monday October 27th, Savannah Carter completed our first community blanket

  8. Recycling • Our goal is to recycle, reduce and reuse most of the paper and plastics that we use at school and around our home • Please bring in your paper and plastics for donations

  9. Recycling Plastic Shopping Bags Please bring in your used Plastic Grocery bags for recycling. For every 1 pound of bags we collect, H-E-B will pay us $1

  10. Paper Recycling Facts • Americans throw away enough paper every year to build a 12 feet high wall from Los Angeles to New York (Environmental Defense). • Recycling paper instead of making it from new material generates 74 percent less air pollution and uses 50 percent less water. (EPA, 2008) • If only 100,000 people stopped their junk, mail, we could save up to 150,000 trees annually. If a million people did this, we could save up to a million and a half trees. The junk mail Americans receive in one day could produce enough energy to heat 250,000 homes. The average American still spends 8 full months of his/her life opening junk mail.

  11. Plastic Recycling Facts • It takes 20 years for a plastic bag to decompose and 250 years for a plastic cup to decompose.  • Americans go through 2.5 million plastic bottles every year. • If every American household recycled just one out of every ten HDPE bottles they used, we’d keep 200 million pounds of the plastic out of landfills every year • A typical family consumes 182 gallons of soda, 29 gallons of juice, 104 gallons of milk, and 26 gallons of bottled water a year. That's a lot of containers -- make sure they're recycled!

  12. Recycling Goals and Updates • Our goal is to collect 6.5 tons of paper • We have successfully collected .33 tons with 2 disposals yet to be posted • Our goal is to collect 2009 plastic bottles • We have successfully collected 1250 bottles • Our goal is to collect 900 plastic shopping bags • We have successfully collected 350 plastic shopping bags
