  1. CHEMICAL FORMULA WRITING & NAMING OF COMPOUNDS

  2. Write the chemical formula of the ionic compound that would form the elements: Aluminum and oxygen Mg and I Na and S Iron (II) and oxygen Na and polyatomic carbonate anion Ca and polyatomic nitrate anion Aluminum and sulfate anion

  3. Write the chemical formula of the ionic compound that would form the elements: Na and polyatomic carbonate anion Ca and polyatomic nitrate anion Aluminum and sulfate anion

  4. Acids are an important group of hydrogen-containing compounds. All BINARY acids or Nonoxyacids (Hydrogen + Nonmetal) 1. Starting with the prefix hydro- 2. Adding the root of the anion. 3. Adding the suffix –ic. 4. Using the word acid as the second name. Ex. HCl(aq) – hydrochloricacid

  5. Acids are an important group of hydrogen-containing compounds. OXYACIDS (Hydrogen + Polyatomic ion) Identify the polyatomic ion in the formula. Change the suffix to –ousif it ends with an -ite. Change the suffix to–icif it ends in –ate. Then, add the word “acid”. Ex. SO3- (sulfite) - H2SO3(aq) =Sulfurousacid SO4 – (sulfate) – H2SO4(aq) = Sulfuricacid

  6. Write the names or formulas of the following compounds HBr H2CO3 H2SO3 H3PO4 HI Sulfuric acid Acetic acid Chlorous acid Dichromic acid Nitric acid Hydrobromic acid Carbonic acid Sulfurous acid Phosphoric acid Hydroiodic acid H2SO4 CH3COOH HClO2 H2CrO4 HNO3
