  3. About Mr. Gay • Born in Bradenton, Florida • Lived in Springfield, Missouri for 5 years (94-98) while attending seminary. • Wife, Serina, is the Tech. Ed. Dept. Chair at Central Gwinnett. She teaches Food Science and future teachers. • Worked with Bank of America before becoming a teacher in 2006.

  7. A class set is provided for use during class time. If needed, you may request a set of books for home use by contacting your child’s case manager.   8. Academic Content Timeline Note:reading strategies, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, study skills, writing, speaking and listening are taught within thematic units throughout the academic year.

  12. Expectations • Students must be on time and prepared with all of the necessary materials for class each day. • Students need a composition book and 1.5”, 3-ring binder.

  13. Expectations • All work is expected to be turned in on time. • Students with excused absences will have one day for each absent day to complete missed assignments. • Late work must be turned in within 2 weeks of the original due date.

  14. Expectations • It is the students’ responsibility to obtain work missed during any absences. The student should schedule to make-up tests upon his/her return. • Appropriate behavior is expected at all times. Students will not be allowed to disturb the learning environment of others.

  15. Evaluation • Academic grades will be based on • tests • projects and/or writing assignments • quizzes • class work (& homework) • Interim and Final Exams (13% of total grade) • Effort grades will be based on • participation in class • Work completion

  16. Evaluation • There will be no extra credit given in this class. • I am available for extra help, questions, or concerns. • It is the responsibility of the students to ask for extra help. (Self Advocacy)

GRADE RECOVERY • I will attempt to collect make-up work from students, however, it is THEIRresponsibility to do the work and turn it in. • I offer a website with MANY resources. • I will remind students, • I will offer morning help sessions by appointment. • I will contact parents (emailed progress reports, direct emails, and/or phone calls.)
