  17. Lexus Human Machine Interface: • Display vs. Operation Zones

  18. “Intuition”: Lexus Human Machine Interface—Display vs. Operation Zones Value Story Every car manufacturer talks about “intuitive” design—especially in the luxury segment, with more and more electronic features being introduced each year. As the cars we drive become more complex, it becomes more and more important to have a logical, easy-to-use layout for all features and controls. This is a Lexus specialty—Lexus Human Machine Interface design has been widely recognized as the best in the industry. Third-party sources from Edmunds.com to Automobile magazine have recognized the benefits of the Lexus design—both in terms of ease of use and contribution to driver safety. Lexus HMI design began with the launch of the all-new RX 350 in 2010 and has made its way to the HS and ES. The design begins with a clear separation between “control” and “display” zones. By creating this separation, Lexus is able to place each interface where it’s most useful. As an example, control zones are always placed within easy reach of the driver. Rest your hand on the center console of your RX 350 and you’ll find the industry-leading Remote Touch interface. Within a few inches, you’ll find access to additional climate control and audio controls. Place your hands at 9 and 3 on your steering wheel, and you’ll notice a host of audio and vehicle controls intelligently and intuitively placed within reach.

  19. “Intuition”: Lexus Human Machine Interface—Display vs. Operation Zones Value Story (cont.) On the display side, Lexus has placed all driver information displays where they can be viewed easily at a glance. The navigation system screen is placed high on the instrument panel, reducing the distance the driver’s eyes must travel to view the screen. Some Lexus models also feature a clear heads-up display, which places critical information within a quick glance. Lexus interior design provides safety and convenience benefits to drivers and passengers alike. No matter what you want to do — from increasing audio system volume to lowering interior temperature to finding the nearest restaurant — your Lexus will make getting there stress-free.

  28. “Another Set of Eyes”Lexus Exterior Cameras Value Story Have you ever wished you had eyes in the back of your head when backing out of your garage or driveway? A number of Lexus features employ advanced sensors and cameras to detect the presence of objects and relay that information to you. Examples include available Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Pre-Collision System as well as Intuitive Park Assist and an Advanced Parking Guidance System. When a sensor located on the front, rear or sides of the vehicle detects that an object is in close proximity, the driver is alerted.

  29. “Another Set of Eyes”Lexus Exterior Cameras Value Story (cont.) This technology makes it easier and more convenient to park, pull out onto the street or operate the vehicle in “reverse”. It can also help you when you’re out on the road. For example, available Lane Keep Assist helps keep your vehicle in its lane on an ongoing basis by issuing an audible tone and a warning screen when an inadvertent lane departure is detected. And, if necessary, it can provide a corrective steering input to keep you in your lane. The Pre-Collision System utilizes a front sensor to recognize when a frontal collision is unavoidable and then automatically applies the brakes and retracts the front seatbelts.

  33. “Parallel Parking Simplified”Intuitive Park Assist Value Story Have you ever hesitated, wondering if you really can “squeeze” into a parking space that may appear a little tight? Well, now you can sit back and relax. Lexus has made parking and maneuvering simple and stress free with available Intuitive Park Assist. The system consists of front and side sensors mounted in the front and rear bumpers of Lexus vehicles. The sensors automatically activate at low speeds to warn of obstacles in the driving path of the vehicle. When parking and driving at low speeds, the system provides a visual warning on the instrument panel as well as an audible beep that changes based on the distance between the vehicle and the obstruction. With Park Assist, Lexus drivers enjoy a stress-free parking experience.

  37. Lexus Voice Recognition • Advanced voice-recognition technology • Recognizes commands for: • Audio • Climate control • Bluetooth/phone

  38. Lexus Voice Command • Standard on all vehicles equipped with navigation • Everyday speech commands • “It’s too hot” • “Show Japanese restaurants” • “Show gas stations” • “Call Steve at work”

  39. “Using Your Inside Voice”Voice Commands Value Story Did you know that various Lexus systems — including navigation, Bluetooth®, climate control and audio — feature advanced voice-activated technology that allows you to use your natural voice to access and operate various functions and features? Not only does voice activation offer the convenience of hands-free operation, it also contributes to your safety by enabling you to keep your attention on the road. Over the past few years, Lexus has continued to improve and refine its voice command technology. The system now includes a casual voice-recognition feature that uses natural speech technology to acknowledge conversational commands. For example, to set the automatic climate control to 70 degrees, simply say “Temperature 70 degrees”. You can even say “It’s too hot”, and your Lexus will automatically reduce the set temperature by 5 degrees.

  40. “Using Your Inside Voice”Voice Commands Value Story (cont.) Consider how it works with the vehicle’s navigation system. Using voice commands you can easily input a destination while driving — by name, number, address or the nearest point of interest in a desired category. Once you’ve selected an option, the entire route is displayed on screen. You can then follow the step-by-step visual directions and voice prompts to your chosen destination. You can also show a list of nearby restaurants by cuisine “Italian food” or all nearby restaurants “I’m hungry”. So, in a manner of speaking, you just say the word and voice command technology will take it from there.
