  1. Akraino Edge Stack Overview Kandan Kathirvel TSC-Chair, Akraino Edge Stack Director, AT&T Labs May, 2019

  2. A Paradigm shift – 5G The RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) The telecom industry is experiencing a profound transformation and 5G is expected to radically change how we live, work, and play. To make networks more agile and open, AT&T and Nokia are leading the creation of open-source RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC). The RIC allows RAN control on a per device (UE) basis with a delay as low as 10ms*. This allows the RIC to perform fine grained optimizations that were never possible before. Built as an open platform, the RIC enables Telco to deploy customizations, in the form of apps, that tailor the cellular network for specialized needs of our customers’ own industries and foster the creation of new network services. What: 5G brings the benefits of cellular networks to new domains - smart factories, smart cities, automotive, AR/VR, and healthcare. The network will adapt to you rather than you adapting to the network. So what: The RIC will enable customizations of the cellular network based on location, device, application, and urgency of service to emphasize different, often competing characteristics such as bandwidth, latency, security, priority, ubiquity, range, and battery life.

  3. Mobility Core to RAN Virtualization Akraino Blueprint (REC) to support RAN Intelligent Controller from O-RAN

  4. Akraino Community Progress Akraino Release 1 Highlights • 8+ Blueprint Families with 19+ Blueprints under development to support variety of Edge use cases. • Community Development started in Jan’19 and 1st release targeted in 2Q2019

  5. Akraino Community Lab Lab Collaboration • Akraino blueprints are validated in the dedicated validation labs • Akraino hosts community lab for additional validation of blueprints • Automated testing of blueprints

  6. Akraino Edge Stack Technical Community Technical Community Collaboration • Akraino Technical Community Calls take place once a week as a platform to discuss: • New Project Proposals • Collaborate with other communities • Discussion on several Edge Technical topics • Community Calls Occur weekly on Thursdays’ at 11:00am-12:00pm ET
