  1. What is the IB Music Curriculum? Planning to pursue the International Baccalaureate Music course? Through this course, students get a chance to develop their knowledge as musicians. The course is meant for exposing the students to different styles, forms and functions of music from socio-cultural and historical point of views. They get a chance to create, participate and even reflect upon music from different backgrounds. Through the IB Music course, students develop communicative as well as practical skills that help them engage in music for further studies. Musical perception is studied by Higher Level (HL) as well as Standard Level (SL) students. There are three options out of which Standard Level students are asked to select one: 1.Creating (SLC) 2.Group Performing (SLG) 3.Solo Performing (SLS) If you are a Higher Level student, you will be required to present creating as well as solo performing options. There is a variety of teaching approaches used for teaching music to SL as well as HL students. They are basically encouraged to develop their critical and creative abilities. They get an opportunity to enjoy music and enhance their ability to appreciate different types of music. Here are some of the key features of the IB Music course: 1.It is available for SL as well as HL students 2.For SL, minimum prescribed number of hours is 150 whereas for HL it is 240 hours. 3.As a student, you will be assessed externally as well as internally. 4.As part of the external assessment, there will be 1) the Listening Paper, including musical perception questions) and 2) Musical Links Investigation, a written media script that investigates significant musical links between two or more music pieces from different cultures. When choosing an international boarding school in Mumbai or the right curriculum, it is very important to do some research before making a final choice.
