Based on the cultural values and beliefs, the funeral rites also differ across various countries. Buddhist funerals remain one of the most popular types of funerals that are performed in many countries, including Singapore. Buddhism has many sects and the practices at funerals differ based on the sect the deceased was a part of. However, there are generally certain essentials which are always followed at a Buddhist funeral by mourners which are meant to help the deceased soul to pass on to the next stage in life. The Buddhist funeral can be performed at home, funeral house or a temple. The body of the dead is cremated within 3 days of the death. If the deceased was an influential person, his body remains are kept in the temple for a year. -
