  5. General Public View All site visitors can browse and search the public knowledgebase of archived questions as well as the collection of resources

  6. General Public Features The public question archives are searchable and are presented in the form of threaded discussions – all embedded URLs within responses are hyperlinked

  7. Registered Patron Features Registered patrons have a personal home page for managing their questions and answers via the simple web interface Patrons also receive an email messages containing the answer

  8. Experts– Question Answering Approved experts have a variety of tools available to them to make the question answering process simple yet flexible, including: • Claiming questions • Saving answers for later • Spell-check

  9. Approved Expert View – Other Features Experts may modify their profile, including their preferences for email notification Experts also maintain a personal archives of their previously answered questions

  10. Administrators Administrators have a powerful set of management tools, including easy-to-use site customization tools and a basic set of statistical Reports A project is underway to build a data warehouse for AskNSDL

  11. AskNSDL Technical Details • Questions encoded with XML using QuIP http://quartz.syr.edu/eduref/QuIP.htm • Future software developments include extending this schema to structure answer data as well as question thread data
