Bridging the Gap: Transitioning to Enhanced CABs and New Recon Platforms in the Army

This document outlines the transition plan for the Army's aviation units, highlighting the strategic use of AH-64E helicopters as a bridging solution until new reconnaissance platforms are deployed. The plan includes the retention of Enhanced Combat Aviation Brigades (ECAB) within the Active Component (AC) and the transfer of some units to the Army National Guard (ARNG). This transition is expected to save the Army approximately $1 billion annually and ensures continuous operational readiness while maintaining critical aircraft availability across all aviation brigades.
