Dual Enrollment Program • Wright State University (WSU) is excited about continuing the Dual Enrollment Program (DEP) • DEP is designed to allow students to complete college-level courses for high school and university credits • Hayes High School (HHS) and WSU are partnering to deliver DEP Spanish, and French language courses on the HHS campus during the school day

  3. Dual Enrollment Program • 2013-14 Dual Enrollment Spanish courses: Fall Semester • SPN 1020: Beginning Spanish II Spring Semester • SPN 1020: Beginning Spanish II • SPN 2010: Intermediate Spanish I

Dual Enrollment Program • WSU Spanish dual enrollment courses: • Courses will be taught using an accelerated, college curricular format • Courses will be taught by Spanish instructor, Ms. Karen Waselko, in collaboration with WSU Spanish faculty • Each course equals 3 semester hours of college credit • Students must complete each Spanish course with a grade of “C” or higher (at college level) to enroll for the subsequent courses

Dual Enrollment Program • WSU French dual enrollment courses: • Courses will be taught using an accelerated, college curricular format • Courses will be taught by French instructor, Ms. Kimberly Young, in collaboration with WSU French faculty • Each course equals 3 semester hours of college credit • Students must complete each French course with a grade of “C” or higher (at college level) to enroll for the subsequent courses

Dual Enrollment Program • DEP Guidelines: • DEP permits qualified students to take WSU courses for both high school and WSU credits • DEP courses will use same syllabi, assignments, and texts as parallel foreign language courses on WSU campus • DEP courses will meet for same number of contact hours, minimally, as language courses on the WSU campus • DEP students are expected to meet same academic standards, including course prerequisites, and adhere to same class and university policies as students on WSU campus

Dual Enrollment Program • DEP Guidelines: Students will be establishing a college transcript: • Please note that all WSU dual enrollment course credit is transcripted college credit… • And, must be reported when applying to future undergraduate institutions… • Therefore, it is very important that students motivate themselves to perform well academically!!

Dual Enrollment Program • DEP Learning Agreement: • Students and parents must read and sign Wright State DEP Learning Agreement with the FERPA “Authorization for Release of Student Information” and “Financial Responsibility” statements • DEP Application: • Students and parents complete and sign DEP Application • Registration Activity Form • Student registers for desired class

  10. Dual Enrollment Program • DEP Guidelines: Students will sign a Learning Agreement: • Attend Class • Prepare for class • Participate in class • Earn a “C” or higher grade in all WSU dual enrollment courses, while maintaining at least an overall GPA of 2.00

Dual Enrollment Program • Academic Support Services: DEP students will have access to academic support resources provided to all WSU students: • WSU Student Academic Success Center [http://www.wright.edu/uc/success/services/tutoring.html] • Tutoring Center • Math and Writing Centers • WSU Dunbar Library [http://www.libraries.wright.edu]

Dual Enrollment Program • Wright 1 Card (WSU Photo ID): • Wright 1 Cards may be obtained in the Wright 1 Card Center(E234 Student Union) on the WSU campus, by presenting your WSU dual enrollment class schedule and a photo ID • Wright 1 Card required for in-person access to: • WSU Dunbar Library • WSU Student Academic Success Center • WSU Campus Recreation facilities • WSU Athletic Events, etc.

Dual Enrollment Program • 2013-14 DEP Tuition: • WSU is offering a discounted tuition rate for DEP courses • 2012-13 DEP tuition/fee rates will be: • Spanish & French = $405 per course (+ $10 fee/new students) • DEP tuition/fees must be paid directly to Hayes High School by deadlines as announced by HHS, or the DEP course enrollment will be cancelled due to non-payment

Dual Enrollment Program • DEP Instructional Materials: • HHS will provide the DEP French and Spanish textbooks and audio CDs with the expectation that these materials are returned to HHS at the end of the school year • DEP students need to purchase the required Modern Language workbooks, and other consumable course materials, from any vendor of choice

Dual Enrollment Program • Withdrawal Procedures for DEP courses: • If withdrawing from the DEP course, students should do so during the 100% refund period (and early enough to transition to another subject!) • DEP withdrawal procedure requires submission of official “WSU Registration Activity Change” form with signature of student and HHS guidance counselor

Dual Enrollment Program • Fall 2013 Semester Refund/Drop Deadlines: • August 28, 2013 – Last day to drop with a 100% refund • September 10, 2013 – Last day for a 70% refund • September 20, 2013 – Last day to drop without a grade (no refund) • October 25, 2013 – Last day to drop with a grade of “W” (no refund)

Dual Enrollment Program • Spring 2014 Semester Refund/Drop Deadlines: • January 17, 2013 – Last day to drop with a 100% refund • January 28, 2013– Last day for a 70% refund • February 7, 2013 – Last day to drop without a grade (no refund) • March 15, 2013 – Last day to drop with a grade of “W” (no refund)

Dual Enrollment Program • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA): • Federal law that protects privacy of student educational records • FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children’s educational records • FERPA transfers these rights to students when s/he attends a school beyond high school level • DEP students/parents are asked to read and sign FERPA “Authorization for Release of Student Information” statement on the Learning Agreement
