Unit Objectives for Typographic Design • In this unit, you will learn to do the following • Use guide lines to position text in an image • Make a clipping mask from text • Merge text with other layers • Use the layer styles with text • Preview typefaces interactively to choose them for an image • Control text and positioning using advanced palette features • Wrap text around a 3-d object

  3. Lesson Overview • In this first lesson we will • Create a guideline to align text • Add point text to an image

Adding Guides to Position Type • Open the lesson 9 start and the olives images in lesson 10 on the i-drive • Using the zoom tool: • Drag over the black and white portion of the blank label to zoom in and center it in the image window • Repeat until you have a good close up view of the area • Choose view > Rulers to turn on guide rulers • Then drag an vertical guide from the left ruler to the center of the label (about 3.5”) and release

  6. Adding Point Type • Make sure that the Blank Label layer is selected • Select the Horizontal type tool • Choose the Myriad Pro Font and choose bold from the Font Style menu • Type in 79pt into the size field and press Enter • Click the center text alignment button

Adding Point Type • Click on the center of the guide line in the white area of the label to set the text insertion point • Type OLIO in all caps • Click on the commit edits button (check mark) • Press Ctrl and drag the OLIO text to visually center it in the white box • Save your work in lesson 10 folder

  8. Checking portfolio • Once you have completed the assignment, I will check your portfolio. • If you have already shown me your portfolio, you may continue your work on the DVD cover
