  2. Early Life • Born in Hickory, Mississippi, on April 8,1946 • Johnson graduated from Freeport high school in 1964 • Got his master degree in international affairs from Princeton University • He has nine other brother and sister. • Parents name are Edna an Archie Johnson.

Early Career decisions • Work as a lobbyist for the NCTA ( National Cable Telecommunications Association ) then became VP. • Tom Wheeler, The president of the NCTA, gave Johnson 15,000 to start his venture. • Also got John Malone, president of TCI to invest 500,000. • Work for public broadcasting and became a public affairs officer • Then he went to politics by becoming an aide for The Washington Urban League.

Info About Business • BET was found in 1979, it became the first African American market TV channel • He founded this with his wife Sheila Johnson. • In 2000 Viacom announced plans to purchase BET for 3 billion dollars • He also developed the RLJ companies, also made the Charlotte Bobcats. • Made ‘’Jumping The Broom’’ the movie with help from Harvey Weinstein. • He was divorced after selling BET to Viacom.

  5. Impact on society • He was the first African American to make a TV show that target blacks. • Gives a chance for blacks actors and actress to work. • It a network for African American.
