  1. L2: Author Research Milestones for Task: What’s on their mind?

Topic, Texts and Key Questions • Select research topic by selecting author and deciding what issues you want to find out about • Write Key Questions (3 minimum) • Select suitable texts (4 novels minimum, or 2 novels and 5 short texts, or as arranged with me) • Write a personal research timeline • Milestone#1 Submit T,T & Q by Friday 24 -7- 09 • See exemplar of TT & KQ below • Exemplar: • Topic: Mark Twain • Texts: Novels: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Life on the Mississippi, Huckleberry Finn • Short story/ prose poem: The War Prayer • Essays: Letters from the Earth • Key Questions: 1. How did Mark Twain’s life influence his writing? • 2. What patterns are evident throughout Mark Twain’s writing? • 3. What does Mark Twain’s style say about him as a person?

  3. Collect information – Reading Log • Read the texts with a pen and paper. On the paper have the key questions listed. • Select information relevant to the key questions • Record the information accurately, note page • Milestone #2 Friday D5, 31/7/09 – Show logs of two novels • Milestone #3 Wednesday (Wk 3) – Show remaining logs • Collate information • Decide on the best way to use the information in the logs • Combine information from the various sources • Write the research report • Determine the format of the report • Write it, acknowledging sources • Write a bibliography

  4. Due date: Monday 10 August • Checklist for handing in: • Original source sheets are attached • Topic is stated • Key Questions are listed • Report is at least 500 words in length. • Judgements are made in the report
