  3. Intro II Tim. 2:24-26 24. The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, 25. with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26. and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. • “Bond-Servant”: • G1401 doulos: “slave (fig. or lit.); bond-servant, bond-man, bond-slave.” In serving, we see there are characteristics of the Lord’s Bond-Servants…! 5. The Lord’s Bond-Servant is Competent II Tim. 2:24: The Lord’s bond-servant is “able to teach”: • “Able to teach” means the individual is “skillful in teaching” (Vines); “apt to teach,” “instructive” (G1317 didaktikos). • To be “skillful in teaching” or “able to teach” one must know what one is teaching! • To know what to teach, one must study (II Tim. 2:15) II Tim. 2:15 15. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. • Not everyone can be or desires to be a teacher, but saints ought to be able to give an “answer” (Js. 3:1-2; I Pet. 3:15) The Lord’s Bond-Servant: Service Characteristics

The Lord’s Bond-Servant is Competent • Competence comes from: • Preparation • Jn. 17:3 • II Tim. 2:15 • Practice • Teaching (Rom. 12:6-7) • Preaching (I Cor. 1:17) • Visiting those in need (Mt. 25:31-40) • Restoring the lost (Js. 5:19-20) • Refuting error (II Tim. 4:1-5) • Persistence • Heb. 5:12-14 The bond-servant of the Lord must be able to teach; that means the servant of the Lord must know God’s word! As bond-servants of the Lord we are to put on a heart of compassion! The Lord’s Bond-Servant: Service Characteristics

  9. Conclusion It is a constant challenge to be a servant of the Lord – we must evaluate ourselves on a daily basis to see if we are living in such a way that gives glory to God (II Cor. 13:5) It is a challenge, but the rewards are great – Rev. 2:10: “Faithful till death” = Crown of life! Rev. 2:10 (II Tim. 4:8) 10. 'Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. It is an honor to be the Lord’s Bond-Servant! The Lord’s Bond-Servant: Service Characteristics
