Students • nurture potential of students • challenge those with advanced learning capabilities • address the needs of gifted learners across all curricular areas • To raise awareness that the utilization of differentiated instruction is a necessary tool in ensuring all student’s mastery of academic standards (effective teaching).

  3. How do we meet the needs of your gifted child?

  4. Differentiation • Depth/complexity (and relevancy) • Alter the pace and style as necessary • Use high level questioning (think Bloom’s!) • Provide guidance to students’ curiosity • Allow students to choose content, allow group brainstorming • Allow students to show creativity and encourage perseverance • Encourage students to show what they learned through varying media...theatrics, reports, TV commercials, art, song, demonstrations, journals, or other suitable means • Allow students to prepare and research alone or together

You are a Summer gardener. • List vegetables you could grow in your garden • Draw pictures of your 3 favorites • Describe your 3 favorites explaining how you might serve them. B. You are a year round gardener. • Use a Venn diagram to compare and contrast plants that grow well in a Winter garden and plants that do well in a Summer garden. • Using the diagram, write a 2 paragraph summary detailing the differences between the two gardens. C. You are a landscape architect. • Design a 4’ X 6’ garden, labeling all plant names • Include an irrigation system, noting the movement of the sun • Write a summary including duration of sunlight expected for this garden, and in which season this garden will thrive.
