  2. Second Grade Math Class

  3. Purpose: • Have students understand sorting colors, how to make predictions, and apply the results in a graph made in excel. • Objectives: • Sort and classify objects by attributes, and organize data into categories in a simple table or chart.

  4. Vocabulary Sorting: separating objects into shapes, color, and size. Prediction: an educated guess on how many of each color jelly beans you will get out of 10. Graphing: using a bar graph to compare the prediction of jelly beans to the actual count of jelly beans.

  5. How to Predict • Students will all look at a jar full of jelly beans. • The colors inside will be blue, red, green, and purple • The students will predict how many of each color there are in the jar • They will guess how many jelly beans of each color there are in the jar and record the data

  6. Sorting • Separate the jelly beans into groups of colors • Record how many jelly beans there are for each of the four colors

  7. Graphing • Chart the data that has been recorded • Graph the actual vs. predicted amount of jelly beans based on there color • Using a bar graph

  9. Lets see what we know! • We just learned about the different vocabulary and how each of them work. Now lets see how well you know and understand the vocabulary!

  10. Question # 1 • What is a prediction? Multiplying and dividing fractions A bar graph an educated guess on how many of each color jelly beans you will get out of 10.

  12. Question #3 What is a graph? A term that has nothing to do with math A order of operation used to compare predictions using a bar graph to compare the prediction of jelly beans to the actual count of jelly beans.

  19. Conclusion • Hopefully now you have a better understanding of the words: Prediction, sorting, and graphing. Now to better understand these words we can sort anything now! Next time we will sort different kinds of toy cars!
