  1. Marc Jacobs Marc Jacobs - a famous fashion designer, one of the most influential people in the fashion industry, best known for his unusual interpretations of trends in popular culture, was born in New York City in 1963. Marc spent much of his childhood moving from place to place. When Jacobs was seven, his father died. His mother remarried and divorced several times, and each of marriages required the family to relocate. Later, Jacobs said that his mother was “mentally ill” and didn’t really take care of her kids. When Jacobs was a teenager, he went to live with his grandmother on the Upper West Side, neighborhood of Manhattan. Many years later, Jacobs told New York Magazine that his grandmother “was emotionally stable” and very encouraging to him. She raised his interest in fashion design, teaching him as a child how to knit. By age 15, Marc entered the High School of Art and Design. After graduating from high school, Jacobs studied at the world-famous Parsons School of Design. In his final year, inspired by his grandmother, he designed a collection of oversized hand-knit sweaters. This graduation collection attracted much attention and received very positive reviews. Marc was awarded three of the schools highest honors.

  2. In 1984 Jacobs was hired by the clothing manufacturer Reuben Thomas, Inc.. This was the beginning of his career. In 1986, Jacobs designed his first collection under the Marc Jacobs label. In 1987, The Council of Fashion Designers named Jacobs "New Fashion Talent", which was one of the fashion industry’s highest honors. In 1988, Jacobs joined sportswear label Perry Ellis as vice president and president. A few years later, the Council of Fashion Designers awarded Jacobs with The Women's Designer of the Year Award.

  3. In 1993, Jacobs gained worldwide recognition for his revolutionary “grunge” collection, inspired by grunge music. The collection featured the antithesis to the glamorous models then in vogue. Jacobs earned a reputation of “guru of grunge” by Women’s Wear Daily. Marc Jacobs was appointed Louis Vuitton's creative director in 1997. For his Louis Vuitton collections, Jacobs worked with many popular artists, including Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami and rapper Kanye West.

  4. In 2001, Jacobs launched his secondary line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. In October 2013, after the Spring – Summer 2014 collection, Marc Jacobs left Louis Vuitton to focus on his own line. Interesting fact - Marc Jacobs has a dog Neville, a bull terrier who has his own Instagram with 123,000 followers. Neville Jacobs is one of the most followed dogs in social media.
