Covid-19 is a virus that affects our respiratory system and causes fever, cough, breathing issues, and also death. This is generally spread due to bad hygiene of not washing hands and touching your face, eyes, nor or mouth with infected hands. There is no evidence that practicing oral hygiene can prevent Coronavirus. However, good oral hygiene can reduce your overall dental cavities and oral health and prevent other diseases. Why should you perform Oral Hygiene during Corona Outbreak? Due to social distancing and everything being closed most dentists are not offering any medical treatments. In such a situation if you have a cavity or toothache or any other oral issue you will be put in a very complicated situation. Also, bad oral health can cause bacteria to travel into your body and cause other diseases. Hence it is very important to keep precaution and perform good oral hygiene at home. Oral Hygiene at Home during COVID-19 Here are some home oral guidelines to pull you through these lockdown times. •Brush two times a day and use floss once a day to remove access plaque or any bacteria. •Your Toothbrush should be clean and kept covered or in a hygienic place. •Keep your bathroom area clean where you store your toiletries. •Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your mouth. •Try to avoid eating foods that are sticky, sugary, chocolates, and can cause dental cavities. •Avoid eating hard snacks and chips while late binging in the nights without brushing. •Limit your intake or cold fizzy sodas and sugary drinks since they ruin your tooth enamel. •Avoid smoking as it causes oral cancer and other issues. •If you have any kind of tooth pain use Ibuprofen or any over the counter basic medicine. •For swelling, you can use home remedies like salt water gargle. •For any kind of gum pain for you or your children, you can use oral gels like Orajel that are available with chemists. •You can take advice from your dentist over the phone in case there is an emergency. •Drink plenty of water because water helps to flush the mouth and keep it clean. •Eat clean fruits and vegetables like apples to keep all tooth debris away. When should I visit a Dentist? It is not recommended that you visit any hospital for basic dental issues during the pandemic.
