  3. General Safety Precautions • Button up shirt sleeves. • Wear working shoes. • Avoid litter near the printer. • Be concentrated on your job. • Before leaving the work area, clean and set all tools and assemblies. Confidential

  4. Fire Safety • The following rules must be observed at all times: • No smoking! • Avoid any kind of spark or flame near the printer or its materials. • Do not use fluids (inks, solvents, cleaners) which are not recommended by HP IID. • Make sure that fire extinguishing means are at hand. • Learn all emergency escape routes. Confidential

  5. Fire Safety (Cont.) • If the site’s main power switch is not switched off, NEVER USE WATER! • If chemicals are on fire, NEVER USE WATER! • Use the following extinguishers only: • CO2 (or Halon) • Foam • Dry powder • Always keep two 6 kg fire extinguishers near every printer. Confidential

  7. Ventilation Safety • A vacuum exhaust system must function before the printer operates. Make sure that the ventilation system forces at least 8 replacements of air per hour. • Lack of ventilation can cause poisoning, fire and explosion. Confidential

Hardware Safety • Do not approach any rotating parts. • Do not touch any moving parts. • Do not put your hand in the machine during operation. • Keep control panels accessible at all times. • Remove tools and loose parts from the machine before operation. • Remove loose sheets and paper scraps from the printer before operating the machine. Confidential

  9. Hardware Safety (Cont.) • Make sure that the safety locks for the substrate bar are in place before operating the machine. • Make sure that no one is near the main hood when operating the printer. Confidential

  10. Danger! High voltage! Can cause fatal or serious personal injury! Electrical Safety Confidential

Electrical Safety (Cont.) • Do not connect the printer to the main power source unless all emergency switches are reset. • Do not deal with electrical components while the printer is not disconnected from the power source. • Only a certified electrician is allowed to do any electrical work. • Clean tiled or concrete floors. Anti-static carpeting or anti-static tiles reduce hazardous accumulations of static charge near the printer. Confidential

  12. Electrical Emergency Procedure • Do not touch a victim of electric shock. • Switch off the main power, or separate the victim from the electricity source – whichever is the fastest option. • Report and call for medical assistance. • Check for breathing – if absent, start artificial respiration. • Check for heart pulse – if absent, start heart massage. • Evacuate to ER immediately.   13. Ink and Solvent Safety • Read carefully the ink and solvent container labels. Take all safety measures, and learn first-aid instructions. • Warning! Most inks and solvents are classified as flammable! • Ink and solvent must not be exposed to heat or sparks. • Keep ink and solvent containers tightly closed in a safe cool place. Confidential

  14. Ink and Solvent Safety (Cont.) • Inks and solvents are dangerous to the eyes! Protective goggles must be worn when handling ink, solvent or waste fluids. Keep an emergency eye-wash bottle near the printer. • Do not handle ink or solvent when wearing contact lenses without goggles. • Most inks and solvents are highly volatile! Use active-carbon mouth filters when pouring inks or solvents, or during machine cleaning. Confidential

  15. Ink and Solvent Safety (Cont.) • Ink or solvent spillage is dangerous: it can cause fire and be a breathing hazards! • Avoid spillage, and soak up immediately any spilled or leaking fluids. Do not throw soaked-up fluid in the bin! Seal in polyethylene bags and dispose of waste materials in accordance with individual countries safety requirements. • Avoid poisoning by washing hands before eating, after smoking, and before leaving the site.   16. Waste Disposal • Dispose of waste liquids in a marked and closed container, located at least 25 feet from the printer. • Avoid disposing waste solvent and ink down the drain! These poisonous fluids can cause damage to the environment, and should be incinerated in accordance with individual countries safety requirements. Confidential

  18. Heavy Loads • Be aware of the substrate roll’s weight before mounting it onto the loader (maximum load 200 kg). • Avoid lifting any heavy loads (max: 25 kg per person). • Lift rolls only with a specially designated lifting device. • Know the weight of the substrate roll and lifting capacity of the lifting device before mounting the substrate roll onto the printer.   19. Personal Safety • To prevent injury: • Do not operate or service the equipment unless you are qualified to do so. • Do not operate the equipment unless safety guards, doors and covers are intact, and automatic interlocks operate properly. • Before adjusting or servicing any moving equipment, shut off the power supply and wait until the equipment comes to a complete stop. • Relieve pressure before adjusting or servicing pressurized systems or components.   20. Personal Safety (Cont.) • If you receive an electrical shock (even a slight one), shut down all electrical equipment immediately. Restart the equipment only after the problem has been corrected. • Beware of hot surfaces, sharp edges, energized electrical circuits and moving parts. Confidential

Fire Safety • The following rules must be observed at all times: • No smoking! • Keep the area under and around the lamp head clear of flammable debris. • Do not use or store any solvent on or near to the lamp head. • Verify that there is adequate ventilation to prevent concentration of volatile materials or vapors. • Shut off all the power before working with flammable materials.   22. Fire Safety (Cont.) • Always make sure that paper or any other material does not jam under or in the lamp area. • Know where all the emergency stop buttons, shut-off valves and extinguishers are located. • Learn all emergency escape routes. Confidential

  23. UV Radiation • UV radiation is generated from the UV lamp and can be harmful. Confidential

UV Radiation (Cont.) • The following rules must be observed at all times: • Verify that all protective covers and interlocks are working properly. • Work with adequate glasses for protection against UV radiation. • Button up shirt sleeves. • Do not bypass any safety devices. • Turn off the UV dryer if any of the machine doors is opened for longer than 6 minutes.   25. Warning! UV Radiation UV Radiation (Cont.) • Avoid exposure for longer than 10 minutes (during an 8-hour shift) near the machine’s rear side if the rear window is open. • Avoid exposure for longer than 6 minutes (during an 8-hour shift) close to the Ink replacing door, if the door lid is open.   26. Ozone Gas • Ozone is generated by reaction of short-wave UV radiation in air. It is a gas which readily reverts to oxygen when mixed with atmospheric air, as it is removed from the source of UV radiation. • Outlet duct concentration is 0.3 PPM in a typical system. Threshold limit Value is 0.1 PPM in working atmosphere. Confidential

  27. Ozone Gas (Cont.) • Precautions: • Most people can smell ozone at about one third of the PPM. • Ozone has an irritant action in the mouth and throat. Confidential

  28. Ozone Gas (Cont.) • If the PPM exceeds 0.1: • Shut down system. • Check the ducting for leaks. • Check the working area with ozone meter before restarting. Confidential

  29. Mercury • Mercury is toxic and must not be consumed or handled directly on the skin. • The following rules must be observed when handling UV lamps: • Button up shirt sleeves. • Work with protective gloves. • Work with eye protection. Confidential
