Biodiversity Protection Framework and Challenges in Kosovo's Nationally Protected Areas

This report outlines the institutional framework and legal basis for biodiversity conservation in Kosovo, highlighting the roles of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, and various NGOs. It details the protected areas in Kosovo, including strict nature reserves, national parks, and nature monuments. Despite progress in designating sites and adhering to IUCN guidelines, significant challenges remain, such as inadequate biodiversity monitoring, ecosystem fragmentation, and insufficient funding. The report calls for enhanced research and awareness to improve biodiversity conservation efforts.
