  2. On 16 December 2008, the State Government announced a reform of the Department of Housing and Works. Separation of the Department of Housing and Works into two distinct service delivery sections was implemented on 2 February 2009. The Department of Housing will remain as an independent department, focussing on the main goal of social housing provision. The Works area will be known as the Building Management and Works as a division of the Department of Treasury and Finance responsible for asset planning, project delivery and maintenance planning for Government non-residential buildings. The decision to divide the key offices was to: Avoid costly over-runs on building projects Focus on delivery on non-residential works such as hospitals, schools, courts, prisons and museums. Enable the consolidation of expertise into one agency focussing on planning, budgeting, project management and procurement

Western Australian State Government announces $ 316 Million Stimulus Package • $316 million to provide an additional 1009 homes throughout 2009/10 • Boost the housing construction industry • Provide 600 dwellings in the Metropolitan area and 400 properties in Regional Western Australia • Encourage State Government employees to work in Regional areas • To acquire land, subdivide land already owned or annex off subdivided land • Spot purchase properties constructed off-the plan • Indentify refurbishment potential and existing properties requiring upgrade such as external painting
