Rwanda, known as Ruanda-Urundi, has a complex history shaped by ethnic divisions among the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa. While initial intermarriages and harmony existed, colonial influences from Germany and Belgium exacerbated tensions by favoring the Tutsi elite. The struggle for power intensified post-independence in 1962, culminating in the tragic genocide of 1994, where 800,000 people were killed in just 100 days. This dark chapter is depicted in the film "Hotel Rwanda," showcasing the harrowing experiences of Hutu and Tutsi families and the challenges faced in the aftermath.
