  2. Why do we need nutrition? • Good nutrition is important for everyone to have and maintain to stay healthy!

  3. What is Nutrition? • The study of how health and food affects the human body!

  4. Food Pyramid!

  5. What is a food Pyramid? • A food guide pyramids is a way people understand what is healthy to eat for there body. There are five colors in the pyramid and they mean the following: orange — grains green — vegetables red — fruits yellow — fats and oils blue — milk and dairy products purple — meat, beans, fish, and nuts

  6. How much should I get?

  7. Grains • You need at least 3 ounces of Grain, pasta, bread, cracker, or rice each day. • Look for the “whole” be bore the grain name on the list of ingredients.

  8. Vegetables • Eat a lot of dark green veggies. • Eat orange veggies. • Eat dry beans and peas.

  9. Fruits • Eat a variety of fruits • Fresh, canned, dried fruits are all good • Don’t drink as much fruit juice

  10. Oils • Try to make most of your fat sources from fish, nuts, and vegetable oil. • Limit solid fats like butter, lard, shortening, or margarine.

  11. Milk • Get low fat or fat free • Everyone needs milk to make their bones stronger • If you cant drink or keep milk down, try lactose-free products or other calcium sources.

  12. Meat and Beans • Eat low fat or lean meats or poultry • Bake it, broil it, or grill it • Vary your choices. Eat more beans, fish, nuts, and seeds.
