What is Cub Scout Day Camp? • 4 days of “fun with a purpose”! • A safe place for boys to go and enjoy the activities they do • The scouts are divided into “dens” based on their rank – Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos 1s & Webelos 2s • They are led during their time at camp by a “Den Walker” • At camp, they will rotate thru several activity areas. These areas are: • Sports • Archery • Program activities (crafts, learning, rank requirements) • Other camp activities (fun lunchtime entertainment, ceremonies) Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

Orientation meeting at 8:00am / 2:30pm Report to the Registration area and sign in Get assigned to an area by your SPL Report to Drop Off area and help escort cub scouts to their den walkers At 8:30am/3:00pm, report to your Session Leader/Den Walker Tuesday through Thursday Sign in at registration by 8:15am/2:45pm and help at Drop Off to escort cubs to their den walkers Report to your Session Leader or Den Walker no later than 8:30am/3:00pm Scout Service Crew/ Den Chief Reporting Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

  11. Parking ArrangementsStaff & Volunteers • Staff parking will be TBD due to pending construction. • There is to be no parking in the roads. • We may need to change our parking procedures daily – BE FLEXIBLE!!!! Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

When to park in Temporary Parking • This parking lot is only to be used by non-volunteers of Day Camp • Some reasons could be: • Dropping off medication to First Aid • Coming early to pick your scout up • If you arrive to camp after the session has started, please walk your scout in to the Registration desk Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

Park in the appropriate area Walk to Main Exhibition Hall SIGN IN yourself at your Den or Station DO NOT leave kids unattended SIGN IN siblings to an adult at the Sibling room Take Medicines to First Aid Station SEND your Scout Service Crew/ Den Chiefs to their Patrol area They SIGN IN themselves They report to their assigned leader. Parent Morning/Evening Drop Off • Enter day camp facility via drive off Telge Rd closest to 290 • Follow drive slowly to main Day Camp building. • Stop at Drop Off location • Staff members will be present to assist campers from vehicles • Scout Service Crew will assist campers to their den area • Please have your scout here by 8:25am/2:55pm each day • If you are going to be late, please call the Hotline at (281)671-7080 to notify us • Only park in the temporary parking if necessary!! • After dropping off your scout, follow the drive to exit the facility Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

  16. Parent Pick Up • The camp ends at 2:00pm/8:30pm. Scouts will be ready to leave shortly thereafter. • Enter day camp facility via drive off Telge Rd closest to 290 • Follow drive slowly to main Day Camp building. • To expedite pick up, please have the sign(s) in your windshield with the child’s name you are picking up. • Please be patient and know we are working as fast and safely as possible! • Staff members will radio back to the day camp main building the name(s) of the scout(s) and they will be ready by the time you get to the doors of the building. • Follow the drive to exit the facility.   18. Small bag or string backpack containing: Sunscreen – SPF 30 minimum Extra Pair of Socks Food that does not need refrigeration. Lunch in gallon Ziploc bag with name and den number on it Drinks Recyclable plastic bottles (for lunch only) or juice cartons – unopened No sodas, carbonated or caffeinated drinks for kids NO GLASS BOTTLES AND NO NON-RECYCLABLE WATER BOTTLES! Knives – remember we are at a Cy-Fair ISD location and all weapons are forbidden Scouts will lose a corner of their Whittlin’ Chip if they have one Weapons Flammable materials Alcohol or drugs Electronic devices Games (PSP’s, iTouch’s, etc.); Music players (Radios, iPods, CD Players, etc.); Communications (Cell phones or other IM devices) Resealable water containers (water bottles, camelbacks, etc) other than those provided at camp.   24. Paperwork: Lots of it! If we do not have paperwork on the person or child, and if they aren’t in the official day camp t-shirt then THEY DO NOT BELONG AT THE CAMP Camp Staff needs to know who is on premises at all times Camp Staff needs to know where everyone is at all times The reason for all this paperwork is simply Safety!! Day Camp Key Staff members are identified by their red shirts Cub Scouts must wear a current Day Camp shirt Must be worn at all times Siblings must wear a current Day Camp Shirt Den Chiefs and Scout Service Crew must wear a current Day Camp shirt Den Walkers and other Adult Volunteers must wear a current Day Camp shirt Shirts distributed the first day of camp. Visitors authorized to be at Day Camp must have a name tag and must be escorted by a Day Camp adult Name tags must be displayed at all times while at Day Camp Name tags must be visible to Day Camp staff Any visitor without a name tag will be approached by two adults and asked to state their business They will be escorted to Registration If they refuse, do not argue or fight with them Notify the Camp Director immediately Keep them in sight until Day Camp staff member arrives Camp Security Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

Boys and Siblings may be: Signed-In for Day Camp beginning at 8:15 AM/2:45PM If you must arrive early, sign your child into Registration Signed-Out from Day Camp beginning at 1:45 PM/8:15PM Dismissal from Day Camp is at the Den Area Den Walkers must turn in Sign-In sheets at Opening Ceremonies All Volunteers must sign out at Registration before leaving Camp. The Cubmaster can watch boys whose parents have not arrived by 2:15PM/8:45PM Entering/Leaving Camp –Volunteers Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

Please leave a message on the Camp Hotline (281)671-7080 Late Arrivals / Early Dismissals EVERYONE arriving late or leaving early must sign in/sign out at Registration Parents will need to send a note with their scout to give to their Den Walker in the morning if they are leaving early that day. Registration will have the child ready at the time the parent comes to pick them up at Registration. An Authorized Adult (18 years or older) must check in with Registration before signing a boy into or removing a boy from Day Camp. This is a BSA policy, please help us enforce it! VISITORS ALL VISITORS must sign inand sign out of Day Camp at Registration Arriving Late / Leaving Early Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

If a registered Cub Scout, Sibling, Scout Service Crew or Den Chief will not be at Day Camp, you must call Absentee Hotline at (281)671-7080 State individual’s name, position or den number Den Walker or Den Chief will turn in a check-in sheet at the Registration before Opening Ceremonies SSC/Den Chiefs must sign in each morning/afternoon and out each afternoon/evening at their assigned area Program volunteers please check in with your Program Leader each day If any child or station volunteer does not check in, the Day Camp staff will contact the adults on the Day Camp Registration Form Child Accountability Procedures Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

The safety of our Cub Scouts is the most important goal that we have Buddy System: Whenever a boy leaves the den during the day, he must be accompanied by a buddy Den Walkers assign buddies during the first day of camp Boys found without buddies will be escorted to Registration by a staff member Siblings will also use the buddy system Camp Safety Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

The First Aid Station location will be easily visible The First Aid Station is operated by a leader with proper medical training All medical forms will be on file at the First Aid Station Medicines must be dropped off at the First Aid Station Designated vehicle for emergency transportation will be parked near the First Aid Station Directions to the local hospital are posted in the vehicle First Aid and Health Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

  33. If a child suffers an injury or health crisis, the Day Camp Staff at the station will be notified immediately Day Camp Staff will notify the First Aid station and the Camp Director If we have to close a station, those dens at that station will go back to the Den Areas The Camp Nurse will decide what action to take First Aid is administered by the Camp Nurse In life-threatening emergencies, the Day Camp Staff may administer immediate first aid Injuries or Health Crisis Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

It is likely(?) that it will rain/storm during Day Camp Activities will continue during light drizzle or rain Carry your ponchos in the den wagon During Heavy Rain/Storm/Lightning: Two (2) air horn blasts will be sounded over camp Move immediately to the Camper Gathering Hall Camp Director will indicate ‘all clear’ status and resumption of activities If sudden storm/lightning: Seek shelter within the nearest building(s) Do not touch metal poles Rain/Storm Procedures Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

Emergency Procedure Notification: 3 Blasts of Air Horn over loudspeakers Den Leaders must tally their boys on arrival at each station If a Cub Scout is unaccounted for, immediately contact the Day Camp staff at that station The staff will immediately contact the Camp Director Backtrack Procedure: Staff, not the Den Walker, will try to backtrack from the station to previous activity to attempt to locate unaccounted child Den Walkers must stay with the Den If this fails, then Camp Director will implement ‘Lost Child’ procedure Lost Child/Emergency Procedures Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

  36. If ‘Lost Child’ procedure is implemented, everyone will be called back to the Camper Gathering Areas or Sibling Activity Area Trading Post will be closed All Day Camp stations will be closed immediately All entrance doors will be closed except the main entrance doors Den Leader must tally the boys by name on a sheet of paper and turn it in to the Camp Director No Cub Scout will leave the Den Area except to use the bathroom (w/ buddy) Lost Child/Emergency Procedures Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

  37. Adults will be stationed at every exit Two adults will be stationed at the bathroom Day Camp staff and selected individuals will implement the search procedure If everyone is accounted for, Camp Director will reopen the Day Camp If a Cub Scout or a Sibling is unaccounted for after the search procedure, the Harris County Police will be notified All individuals will remain in Camper Gathering Area or Sibling Activity Area Sam Houston Area Council Scout Executive will be notified Unaccounted child’s parents will be notified An emergency drill will occur during the week Lost Child/Emergency Procedures Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

Day Camp staff is notified immediately Witnesses will be segregated - individually Everyone else returns to the Camper Gathering Area or Sibling Activity Area Day Camp will be closed Day Camp staff will start notification of parents according to Camp Registration Forms The following will be notified: Sam Houston Area Council Scout Executive Harris County Police Parents Official BSA procedures will be implemented While on the Camp grounds, no one is allowed to talk to the media Fatality Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

  39. Trading Post • Scouts can visit the Trading Post during specified Den Times • Cub Scouts travel to/from the Trading Post with their buddy • Lists and descriptions of products are in the information you received today AND will be sent home on the first day. • You are WELCOME to send in the completed form and our trading post volunteers will do their best to fulfill the order from available stock, but quantities are limited, so buy EARLY!!! • Most items are between $1 and $5!!! • Small snack items are available, or snacks can be sent with scouts IN THEIR BACKPACKS, but snacks are cheap - from $.25 to $1.00. Volunteers Get Fed!!! • Volunteers will be fed lunch each day EXCEPT Monday • On Monday, please bring a sack lunch for your meal! • Tuesday – Thursday, you will be provided a full and satisfying lunch! • Snacks will be passed around for a quick pick-me-up • Remember, you can get snow cones too!!!   43. Cub Scout Service Project • At each day camp, the scouts help us with a worthy service project • This year, we are helping out Tillman’s Troops, by donating NEW books and toys suitable for the hospital environment. • Boys will be given opportunity to accompany their donation with a letter explaining why they like that toy, as well as opportunity to make a book mark to accompany their book. • We will be collecting items all week Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation

Additional Day Camp Needs • In order to keep our operating costs down, we are asking for your help with our ice! • We use about 1000 pounds of ice (or more) each day! • Please bring 1 bag of ice on: • Tuesday – Webelos • Wednesday – Bears • Thursday – Wolves & Tigers Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation
