Discussion on Projects: Where is this list from? • The Wilmington LWRP Citizens’ Committee prioritized the following project ideas after doing a Waterfront Inventory and Analysis and Policy Development. • More importantly the ideas include strong input from the community, gathered through public meetings, workshops, letters, and surveys. • Today, the Committee wants to gather additional ideas and comments on project ideas and the prioritization given below.

Discussion on Projects: Where is this list from? • Three main groups of project ideas identified through public comments: • Lake / Beach Restoration • Public Access to Waterfront Resources • Hamlet / Town Revitalization • “Other” has been added to capture ideas that do not apply to these three. • Ranking Criteria: • Idea categories are presented in order of priority, within each section below. • A combination of the following criteria was used to rank these ideas: • Highest Importance: Local Perception of Need • Next: Cost and Potential Source of Funding • Next: Complexity (how difficult/how simple)

Discussion on Projects • Lake and Beach Area Restoration: • Lake Restoration (dredging, watershed planning, sediment control, water quality, etc.) • Maintenance / Safety (control trash / vandalism, improve parking and safety at Flume, etc.) • Beach Pavilion Improvements (improvements in pavilion, playground, boat launch, etc.) • Recreational Improvements (interpretive tour, bike paths, tennis, etc.)

Discussion on Projects • Public Access to Waterfront: • Flume Area (enforce litter control, improve parking and walkways, etc.) • Fishing Access (DEC help for improved fishing access/signage, bird preserve, trash cleanup.) • General Access (coordinated signs, bike/walking paths, public areas on water, better maps, community center/museum, etc.) • Historic Bridge/Hamlet Center (repair bridge/dam, improve parking and parks, etc.)

Discussion on Projects • Hamlet / Town Revitalization: • Watershed/Scenic Protection (planning and zoning improvements to prevent erosion, funds to upgrade failing septic systems, volunteer water quality monitoring, training for youth, pollution control, public education, historic/natural interpretation, wildlife/bird/turtle monitoring, energy conservation, etc.) • Economic Benefits (support for businesses, shopping improvements for local consumers, community center for local classes, regional cooperation, workforce housing, 4-season job access.) • Pedestrian/Bike Access (sidewalks, bike paths around town, etc.)

Discussion on Projects • Other: • Fundraising for Waterfront projects (outside of tax base where possible) • Town Management (dam repairs, sedimentation reduction on roads, alternatives to salt, community waterfront fund, stormwater control planning, air and solid waste reduction, cooperation with other close towns.) • Historic District creation

Committee Progress on the LWRP • Since December, the committee has accomplished: • Learning about the waterfront resources: cultural, historical, natural, economic, in Inventory and Analysis • Community input and outreach through: • Citizens’ committee work meeting every month since December and conducting subcommittee work in between meetings • Three community meetings • Three surveys • Multiple press and town newsletter articles, TV and radio coverage • 3 posters (in Post Office) and flyers • Postcard to all residences

Committee Progress on the LWRP • Web site (www.adksc.org) and Town Clerk booklet • Visits to seniors, artists, historical society, youth center, and fish/game club • Wilmington Waterfront Day! • Cooperation with local organizations including AuSable River Association, Wilmington Historical Society. • Interviews with town fire dept., Highway, code enforcement, supervisor and relevant agencies: DEC, APA, DOT, DOS, and county IDA • Discussion and decisions on key waterfront issues: public access, hamlet revitalization, and lake / beach restoration • Discussion and decision on waterfront boundary area

Committee Progress on the LWRP • Drafts of 13 policies/approaches for Wilmington to control future of waterfront • Drafts of project ideas for implementing results of discussions and community ideas • New funding proposal for first projects – dredging first step and beach renovation – FUNDED!!
