  2. QUALIFICATIONS FOR IEEE FELLOW GRADE • IEEE Fellow status is granted to a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE’s designated fields of interest • The honor is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors

  3. Candidate Eligibility • Must be an IEEE Senior Member in good standing • Must have completed five years of service in any • grade of membership. Note: IEEE affiliate • membership does not apply. • Exceptions • Members of the IEEE Board of Directors • Members of the IEEE Fellow Committee • IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow • Evaluating Committee Chairs • Members of IEEE Society/Council Fellow • Evaluating Committees reviewing the • nomination • IEEE Staff

Nominator Eligibility • Any member or non-member • Exceptions: • Members of the IEEE Board of Directors • Members of the IEEE Fellow Committee • IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow • Evaluating Committee Chairs • Members of IEEE Technical Society/Council • Fellow Evaluating Committee reviewing the • nomination • IEEE Staff

Nominator Responsibilities • Present a proposed citation • Solicitation of at least five, but no more than • eight, references who are capable of • assessing the candidate’s contributions. • Solicitation of Endorsements (optional) • Identification of an IEEE Technical Society/Council to evaluate the nomination.

Reference Eligibility • Must be an IEEE Fellow in good standing • Exceptions • Members of the IEEE Board of Directors • Members of the IEEEFellow Committee • Members of the IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee reviewing the nomination • IEEE Staff • In addition, a nominator may not serve as a reference for a nomination he/she is submitting.

  8. Reference Responsibilities • Submit the IEEE Fellow Grade Reference • Form by 01 March

  9. Endorser Eligibility • Any person, including non-members • Exceptions • Members of the IEEE Board of Directors • Members of the IEEE Fellow Committee • Members of the IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee reviewing the nomination • IEEE Staff

  10. Endorser Responsibilities Submit the IEEE Fellow Endorsement Form by 01 March

  11. Nomination Methods • A Fellow Kit and the Forms are downloaded • from the Fellow Web Site • Complete documents are sent by mail • Nominationis made online at Fellow web Site • References and Endorsers automatically • notified • All documents are submitted Online

  12. TechnicalSociety/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee Chair Eligibility • Must be an IEEE Fellow • Cannot serve as a nominator for any candidates • Cannot serve as a reference or an endorsement for any Fellow Candidates evaluated by his/her respective Evaluating Committee • Cannot be a member of the IEEE Fellow Committee or the IEEE Board of Directors.

  13. Responsibilities of a Technical Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee Chair • Organize and chair a committee of experts • Evaluate candidates referred by the nominator • Review citation • Submit scores by 15 June

  14. Responsibilities of an IEEE Fellow Committee Member • Evaluate approximately 115 candidates • Score candidates based on the following criteria: • Individual Contributions • Evaluation by the IEEE Society Council • References and Endorsements • Professional Activities • Total years in the profession.

  15. Individual Contribution Categories • Application Engineer/Practitioner • Responsible for product development, advancement in system, application or operation, project management or construction activity, process development, manufacturing innovation, codes or standards development, or other application of technology

  16. Individual Contribution Categories • Educator • Responsible to advance electrical engineering and scientific technology through education by developing curricula and/or courses that are innovative and unique

  17. Individual Contribution Categories • Research Engineer/Scientist • Responsible for inventions, discoveries or advances in the state of the art technological advances

  18. Individual Contribution Categories • Technical Leader • Responsible for a managerial, team, or company-wide effort using technical innovation, and resulting in outstanding performance, economic enhancements, or other advantages to benefit society

  19. Final Fellow Committee Action • IEEE Fellow Committee normally meets in late September or early October. • Reviews scores and ranks proposed Fellow candidates. • Prepares recommended citations. • Recommends a list of proposed Fellow candidates to the Board of Directors.
