  1. “Clinging to His Holiness!” Song of Solomon 3:1-4

  2. Overview of Song of Solomon Pursuing intimacy – “knowing, and being known” Celebration in SOS 2:16 – “My beloved is mine, and I am his” Recall SOS 1:7 “Where do you pasture your flock?” “My beloved is mine, and I am his; He pastures his flock among the lilies” (2:16)

  3. Introducing Drama @ SOS 3:1 Her Lover is Absent! Parallel – Jesus ascends to heaven (Acts 1:9)Similar to John 14:2-3 – Jesus has withdrawn Distance between you and Jesus is like…* lukewarm mediocrity replaces white hot fire and zeal* The Word becomes a chore / checklist* Prayers hit a brass ceiling* No burden for the lost / broken lives

  4. What Creates Distance From Jesus? “If God seems far away, guess who moved?” Distractions from the world – Matthew 13:22 “deceitfulness of riches choke…” Failure to swiftly repent of sin – 1 Cor. 6:18 – “Flee immorality” 1 Cor. 6:19 – “your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit” Hesitation to obey – the nature of a commandment; example: a disobedient child

  5. Distance Summarized? A Lack of Love Example: The Church at EphesusPaul’s rich admonition on God’s love to the Ephesian church – 3:17-19 Contrast with Revelation 2:4 – “But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”

  6. How to Tighten the Distance I must: A) “Arise and go about the city” * become disturbed/restless in soul (I need revival! “It’s me O Lord!”* Note: may NOT mean more activity! B) “I must seek him whom my soul loves” Urgency: return to “Nothing Between My Soul and My Savior!”

  7. Nothing Between … Nothing between my soul and my Savior, naught of this world's delusive dream; I have renounced all sinful pleasure; Jesus is mine, there's nothing between.Nothing between my soul and my Savior, so that His blessed face may be seen; nothing preventing the least of his favor; keep the way clear! let nothing between.

  8. The Role of the Watchman Vs. 3 – “The watchmen found me” Whom has God sent into your life lately: * to remind you of the love of Jesus?* the need for salvation from sin?* the wickedness of sin?* the need for security in salvation?* confidence of God’s love, forgiveness, and plan for your life?

  9. The Bride’s Passion: Him! At all costs! Vs. 4 – “I would not let him go” Vs. 4 – “I brought him into my mother’s house and into the room of her who conceive me” – the bedroom, a place of intimacy How? Review 2 Timothy:1:6 – “kindle afresh the gift of God”1:8 – “do not be ashamed of the testimony of the Lord”1:13 – “Retain the standard of sound words”

  10. Questions to Ponder • How do you respond in seasons of spiritual dryness – when the Lord seems far away?* withurgency? “I must arise now…” “I must seek him whom my soul loves…”* seek His face / fasting and prayer? • How do you respond when Jesus is present? “I held on to Him and would not let Him go!” Clinging to HIM means not clinging to the world (1 John 2:15-17).
