  5. Two kinds of verbs ACTION verbs show an action – run, jump, laugh Poetryenriches our lives. LINKING verbs show a state of being – is, are, was, were Poetry is fun!

  6. Verb phrases • Some verbs use helping verbs such as • Is, have, must, should, would, be, been • Susan has been jumping all day.

  7. Write the subject and verb • The mist floats over the mountains. • Mist – Subject • Floats - Verb

  8. The rumbling thunder scared my sister. • Thunder – S • Scared - V

  9. Angelo has been practicing his three-pointers all week. • Angelo – S • Has been practicing – Verb phrase
