  2. The first recycling mill was Waste Techniques, built in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania in 1972. Waste Techniques was sold in 1978, and resold in 1981. Woodbury, New Jersey was the first city in the United States to mandate recycling.

  3. You may not even realize how many dangerous chemicals are found in cleaners, chemicals and fertilizers within your own home. These household chemicals must be properly disposed of in order to prevent harmful effects to your local environment. Thankfully, there are many more options today which make it easy for you to dispose of household chemicals properly instead of throwing them away to be taken to the landfill or even pouring them down the storm drain.

Many of the cleaning products and other liquids that are used in our homes contain hazardous chemicals and should not be disposed of by pouring them down the drain or throwing the bottle into the trash. Instead, these hazardous chemicals should be taken to your local recycling center on one of their hazardous waste collection days and they will recycle or dispose of the waste in a safe manner. Paint Paint thinner and Turpentine Stains/Varnishes Lighter fluid Photographic development chemicals Rodent poison Pesticide/herbicides Drain cleaners Bleach Household cleaning solutions: oven cleaners, bathroom cleaners, furniture polish, stain removers. Carpet cleaners Mercury thermometers Floor wax Glues Rust removers Driveway sealants Consult your county recycling website for more information on their hazardous waste collections.

  5. Household poisons can cause a lot of damage to our environment like pollute the water. Plants and animals need clean water to survive.

  6. We must take care of our Earth, this is the only one we have.
