ORIENTATIONDAY WeatIISMorganisedanOrientationDayProgramtowelcomeour2022CohortBachelorofSports Management,MasterofSportsManagementandPost-GraduatePrograminSportsManagement students.TheeventcommencedwithourFounder-Director,Mr.NileshKulkarni,addressingthese sportsmanagementaspirants. The orientation program featured industry stalwarts; Grandmaster Pravin Thipsay, Mr. Ramesh Powar,coachoftheIndianWomen'sCricketTeamandformerIndiancricketer,Dr.KeyurkumarM. Nayak,DirectorofGarwareInstituteofCareerEducationandDevelopment(GICED)andMr.Jitesh Mehta,Co-Founder&ManagingPartnerofBirbalSportsandEntertainment. OurCo-FounderMs.RasikaKulkarni,introducedtheacademicteamatIISM.TheProgramHeadof our Bachelor's program Ms. Avanti Desai, took our students through the academic overview for theforthcomingyear. The Master of Ceremonies was Mr. Devendra Prabhudesai, Head of Corporate Relations at IISM and he spoke about the internships, placement opportunities and live exposure that will unfold forthesesportsmanagementaspirants.

ORIENTATIONDAYATCAMPUS IISM is happy to welcome our 2022 Cohort Bachelor of Sports Management students to our campustoday.Thisdaymarksanewchapterintheirlivesastheyarereadytolearn&ventureinto theworldofsportsmanagement. Faculty members arranged various ice-breaking activities for the students. The newest students wereintroducedtothetopheadsofthestudentgoverningbodies,followedbyavaluablelesson onStrength&Conditioning.Thestudentsalsodesignedtheirfuturevisitingcardsasapartofafun activityandparticipatedinsloganwriting. Overall, the students enjoyed being back at a college campus after a two-year break. We wish themagreatacademicyearandallthebestfortheirfutureendeavours.

4. 25YEARSCELEBRATION IISMstudentsorganisedaneventtocommemoratetheSilverJubileecelebrationofourFounder Director,Mr.NileshKulkarni,takinghisfirstwicketofMr.MarvanAtapattu,onDay2ofIndiavs. SriLankatestcricketmatchoffhisfirstballon03rdAugust1997. Mr.AbeyKuruvilla,ex-IndiancricketerandGeneralManager(operations)oftheBCCI,alongwith Professor Ratnakar Shetty, Former Chief Administrative Officer of the BCCI, graced the event. TheytookMr.Kulkarnibacktohiscricketingdaysastheydiscussedthecurrentandpastscenarios of cricket in India. The event was moderated by Mr. Devendra Prabhudesai, Head of Corporate RelationsatIISM. It was a spectacular evening filled with insights into the changing landscape of the cricketing worldandKudostothestudentsforpullingoffsuchanamazingevent.

NATIONAL SPORTSDAYCELEBRATIONAT CAMPUS On account of National Sports Day, the Student Governing Body of IISM organised games at the IISMcampus.StudentsregisteredtoplayChess,Carrom,FoosballandFIFAandhadablastasthe gamesunfolded. ThesegameswereorganisedasapartoftheJEETinitiativebythestudentsofIISM,forthe students of IISM. JEET is a student initiative where the students plan on organising numerous sports spread across a couple of days. It is these events that portray the sheer management capabilities of our students and showcases how they are ready to take on the world of sports management. OurFounder-Director,Mr.NileshKulkarnialongwithMr.ChetanDesai,anInternationaltennis playerandMr.AbhinavSinah,anInternationalsquashplayerdistributedcertificatesandmedals tothewinners.

6. PHYSICALACTIVITYATIISM IISMorganisedanoutdoorphysicalexercisesessionforitsstudents.Thesessionwasmoderated by Mr. Vishwajit Matkar, Founder of VJS Wellness Solutions. Mr. Matkar is a former State-level Football and Hockey player and has represented Maharashtra and the University of Mumbai on variousoccasions. Mr.Matkar conducted several exercises for undergraduate and postgraduate students that highlighted the significance of physical education. IISM devotes serious efforts in support of government-backedsportsinitiativesliketheFitIndiaMovementandthiswasonesuchhumble attempttoencouragestudentstobeapartofsuchinitiatives.

7. MASTERCLASSSESSIONS Mr. Ramesh Powar, coach of the Indian Women's Cricket team andFormerIndiancricketer,visitedtheIISMcampusforamaster classsession.HewascrucialtotheMumbaicricketteam'sRanji Trophysuccessinthe2002–03season. Duringhistimeatthecampus,hetookusthroughhisjourney fromadomesticcricketertoanIndianwomen'steamcoach.He recollected that when he was approached for being a coach, he didnotknowmuchaboutcoaching.Butthatdidnotstophim.He understood the challenges, learned about coaching, prepared himselfandwentontocoachtheplayers.Hementionedthetime when he was sacked as one of the worst phases of his life. He then explainedthesignificanceofsupportfromhispeersandhis cricketingdays experience thathelpedhimsailthrough the toughtime. Itwas aninteractivesessionasthestudents understood the reason why the women's cricket team is not recognizedaswellasthemen'scricketteam. Ms. Deepthi Bopaiah, CEO of GoSports Foundation, visited the IISM Campus for a master class session with our TYBSM & 2nd yearMSMstudents.SheisamemberoftheMissionOlympicCell oftheTargetOlympicPodiumScheme(TOPS),SAI. We at IISM believe in imparting knowledge through industry experts.Inthissession,sheorientedourstudentsongrassroots development, talent scouting & nurturing athlete relationships and athlete management. The students asked questions about thechangingdynamicsofthesportingindustryandclearedtheir doubtsaboutthesedomainsofsportsmanagement. Mr. Vijay Lokapally, veteran sports journalist and author, visited IISMcampusforamasterclasssession.Hewasfirstappointedasa writerfortheleadingnewspaperPatriotin1981.Hethenresigned in1986andstartedwritingforTheHinduGroupandSportstar. During the talk, Mr. Lokapally mentioned several occasions when he had to cover a cricket match at an overseas ground. He also sharedhisexperienceofhowhehadtorushbackfromtheground tobethefirstonetoreportthematchandsenditbacktoIndia.He talkedatlengthaboutthe paradigmshiftinjournalism, reminiscing about the times when he wrote 1500-1800 word articles which now have been reduced to 600-800 words. The students interacted with Mr. Lokapally and understood how the worldofjournalismhaschangedovertheyears.

8. RISINGSPORTSSTARSOFINDIA IISM students breathe sports and are staunch sports enthusiasts. Our students come from various fields of expertise as well as are active sports players from club, state, nationalandinternationallevel.Herearesomeofourstudentswhoarenolessbutrising starsofIndia. OURSTUDENTSATWORK IISM is extremely proud of Mr. Devarata Sawant & Mr. Ayush Naik for getting appointed as Junior Associate - Content Management&JuniorAssociate-Account Management,respectively,atSportzInteractive. SportzInteractive isa sports-focuseddigital-media agencywithexpertiseindeliveringtop-notchwebsites, mobileapplicationsandfantasygaming,amongothers. Mr. Sawant writes copies and manages the content of several social media accounts.Mr. Naik is in charge of thesocialmediaaccountsofsportingleaguesand sportsproperties. CongratulationstoMr.KumailAskari,Mr.Yash Jayade,Mr.ChetanLuthra andMs.Samiddhaa MhabadiforgettingplacedasAthleteManagerand Mr.ParthPurohitasProgramAssociateatGoSports Foundation. The industrywas ableto achieve thisbecauseof thecontinuouseffort ofsports managementprofessionalsemployedinthesportscompaniesinIndiawhoplannedandexecuted numeroussportingevents.
