  2. Black Boy Expository Essayprompt • The 1950s and the 1960s were years of turmoil and change, especially for minorities. In a five paragraph expository essay discuss some of the various historical events that were occurring during Richard Wright’s lifetime. Using the two documentaries we watched in class, Viva La Causa and Children’s March, analyze how minorities were treated during the 1950s and 1960s. In one of the body paragraphs, list evidence from Black Boy (at least two quotes), that show how Richard was treated unjustly.

  3. Introduction • Hook-(pg. 20) • Introduce Black Boy (mention author), La Causa, and Children’s March. Tell something common about all three (dealing with your prompt) • Thesis-what are you going to argue throughout the whole essay? (restate part of prompt-This needs to be your focus in the entire essay!- pg. 29) 2. Body Paragraph 1 • Topic sentence-first point to argue (must refer to your Thesis (pg. 18). • Example/Evidence (quote/proof to prove your topic) a. analysis 1(explain the quote/evidence) b. analysis 2 (explain the quote/evidence) • (possibly use another quote/evidence and explain) • Closing sentence/Transition sentence 3. Body Paragraph 2- (Use the same structure as body paragraph one) 4. Body Paragraph 3- (Use the same structure as body paragraph one) 5. Conclusion- • Restate thesis • Argue one or two points from the body paragraphs. • One last general statement that encompasses (uses) your own opinion. • Works Cited! • Remember to leave time to edit (p. 15) • No more blah words…(p. 19)

  13. Works Cited pg.36-37 • the Works Cited section is located at the end of your paper, and lists all of the sources you cited in your text. For every entry, you must determine the Medium of Publication. Most entries will likely be listed as Print or Web sources, but other possibilities may include Film, CD-ROM, Radio or DVD. Writers are no longer required to provide URLs for Web entries. However, if your instructor or publisher insists on them, include them in angle brackets (< >) after the entry and end with a period.
