Box 138 Dschang –Cameroon. tebugtumasang@yahoo.co.uk: tel: +237 74 67 76 45 Current study: Masters in Biotechnology and Animal production Option: Animal Physiology and Health/University of Dschang-Cameroon About your institution:The University of Dschang-Cameroon is a state university with four faculties; Arts and human sciences; law and political sciences, Economics and management sciences, Sciences and three schools: Agronomy and agricultural sciences, Fine Arts and university institute of Technology. The faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences is the mother faculty with eight departments; Plant protection, Agriculture, Agricultural economics, Rural sociology, Agricultural Engineering, Soil sciences, Forestry and Animal production. It also has off campus research stations or antenna and two teaching and research farms. The department of Animal production has four laboratories, Animal nutrition, microbiology, animal physiology /reproduction and the Animal health. Diplomas offered from the university of Dschang are the Higher National Diplomas (HND),Bachelors and its equivalents, masters and the PhD. Lecturers are given in English and French depending on the choice of the lecturer. Insert image of any equipment About your lab ( number of users, type of work) The Animal Health laboratory (LASAN) is involves in laboratory practical for students from the faculties of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences, Sciences and beyond. It is mainly use by researchers in the fields of animal health, microbiology, biochemistry, and reproduction physiology, and use the laboratory for research and end of course reports, memoirs and thesis. Annually we receive more about 15 to 30 students on internship and about five-seven thesis students. Currently we have 6 PHD students currently carrying on research in the fields of reproductive physiology, ethno-veterinary evaluation and parasitolgy. These students and researchers are nationals from the Central and West Africa Sub regions. This laboratory was funded by the Belgian co-operation for international development between 1986 and 1993 and recently between 1998 and 2003. It also trained a laboratory technician in animal parasitology, serology/immunology in 1992 and in 1999 in intensive theoretical and practical methods in immunoenzymatic disease diagnosis (ELISA) in the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp-Belgium Your responsibilities: My responsibilities are: -To guide and work with students and researcher in their day to day use of the laboratory -To teacher students of animal production, the techniques of disease diagnosis , prevention and treatment. -I also ensure the smooth running of the available material equipment and their maintenance. What do you expect out of this workshop? As a laboratory technician and considering the dynamic nature of sciences and the environment, I expect to acquire new and modern knowledge and techniques on modern equipments and their maintenance to better serve researchers and students on internship and thesis.
