  2. Indirect Observation- When you count the amount of animals that are in a certain amount of space and multiply it by the whole surrounding area. For example: In my backyard I have five bird houses that fit one bird each so I have five birds in my backyard.

  3. Sampling-Estimate because it is too hard to count. • For example: • I went to the field by my house and counted all the mice in on sq foot. There were four in each sq foot there are 100 sq feet in the field So I estimated that there are four hundred mice in the field.

  4. Direct observations- To count all members of the species. For example: I went to the zoo and counted all the monkeys.

  5. Mark & Recapture Studies-to mark each animal and let them back into the wild and then come back and gather up some more and count the amount with marks and no marks. • For example: • I marked all of the pigs in the mud pile and let them go again. I came back a week later and counted how many were marked and were not.
