The BYU Fans Lyor project outlines various methods for measuring wildlife populations. Direct observations involve counting species individually for accuracy, while indirect observations estimate numbers based on traces left behind. Sampling allows estimates based on environmental assumptions, providing insight into population dynamics. Mark and recapture studies capture animals, mark them, and later assess the population by evaluating the marks. These methods enhance our understanding of wildlife populations and guide conservation efforts, highlighting the importance of accurate data collection.

DIRECT OBSERVATION.. • If you are counting species in a group, you count them individually so it’s accurate.
Indirect observation Count the number of animals by looking at the traces left.
Sampling • Make An Estimate based on assumptions in the environment.
Mark And Recapture Studies • You capture the animals, then you mark them, release and come back to see how many are there.
