  2. What is an outline? • A guide as you write • Kind of like a “road map” • Helps to keep you focused and on track

  3. Start with a Rough Outline • Write research question and several good main points • Use brainstorming or free- writes to help cultivate ideas for points • As you find evidence fill in more of your outline

  4. 3 methods • Traditional • Cluster • Grid (but we will not use this method)

  6. Your turn • Write a detailed outline of your research paper • YES! It will probably change. The point is to try and see if you have enough information and/or categories to write about.
