Hso: healthcare support occupations Stepping stone in the health careers industry and receive on-the- job training in local acute hospitals, clinics and private practice with the opportunity to obtain employment in a variety of places in the healthcare field Possible occupations: Medical receptionist, admitting/registration clerk, transportation aide, clinic aide, supply technician, ER triage clerk, central supply aide, medical records clerk, operating room aide, dietary aide, and other entry level health related positions. TABE reading and math levels will be part of the selection process. All students will receive a clinical setting experience

  3. MA: Medical assistant Acquire skills to work in a doctor’s office, medical facility, health clinic, and urgent care center while preparing to the CA certification examination. What job duties do medical assistants perform?: 1) take patients vitals 2) administering injections 3) give medications 4) give treatments 5) all other duties as assigned by clinical coordinator or practice administrator TABE reading and math levels will be part of the selection process. All students will receive a clinical setting experience

  4. Na: nurse assistant Learn skills to assist patients with daily living needs while preparing for the Certified Nurse Assistant examination. Certified Nurse Assistants make initial assessments of patient condition and perform duties such as feed, bathe, dress, groom, or transportation of patients. They work in facilities such as hospitals, Skilled Nursing Facilities (convalescent homes), and long-term care facilities TABE reading and math levels will be part of the selection process. All students will receive a clinical setting experience

  5. Mbc: medical billing and coding Learn computerized medical billing and coding, patient registration, and patient health record management. Students who successfully complete this program are qualified to work in hospitals, medical offices, health care insurance agencies in medical records, admitting, and administration departments. Upon completion of the course, students can test for a national certification. TABE reading and math levels will be part of the selection process. All students will receive a clinical setting experience

  6. Vn: vocational nurse Enroll in 22 month, part-time program for intensive training and preparation for a career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. LVN’s observe patients, perform basic assessments, and report and document changes in a patients condition. They also measure vital signs, perform medical treatments, and administer prescribed mediations. They work in facilities such as hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, long-term care facilities, private homes, group homes, and rehabilitation facilities. TEAS test is a major portion of the selection process with interview, application, and BAS score sheet. All students will receive a clinical setting experience

Basic requirements High school diploma or GED Must possess basic computer/keyboarding skills Valid California drivers license or ID Pass a background check (D.O.J./FBI clearance) Even your DMV record is important for state certification in some cases 30 day hold can keep you from going to clinical----dropped from the program Various last names can prompt a 30 day hold as well….be aware. Social security card or right to work in the U.S. Name on SS card and CA ID must match—req. for background √ Social security card CANNOT be laminated for state testing. Math and reading scores are part of the selection process Complete application Pass drug screening. Note: prescription medications may keep you from being placed at clinical setting (pain killers, etc.)—removal from program Pass TB test Pass a physical exam All immunizations must be current (flu shot is required)

Each certifying agency and employer is different Check with the certifying body for CNA, CMA, etc. Pass a background check If you have different last names in your past this could put your background check into a 30 day hold pattern. Probation or outstanding fines Drug screen must be negative

Work place standard/safety/professional Black shoes, black long sleeves, black jackets only no hoodies, watch with a second hand preferred, tattoos covered, no facial jewelry. No challenging staff No gossiping and no drama No profanity on campus No copies are made for students (your responsibility) Cell phones off/out-of-site Cheating on tests=dropped Be professional at all times Administrative discretion (dropped with refund)

  17. Attendance and tardies Each program has a specific number of absences and/or tardies allowed. Hours and minutes tardy are combined. The following totals are shown. Is there a current issue that would keep you from completing the required hours? Should you reach the total, you WILL be dropped/No Refunds Dropped from your clinical site=dropped from the program Health Support Occupations: Referral at 12 hours/dropped at 17 hours Medical Assistant: Referral at 12 hours/dropped at 17 hours Nurse Assistant Fast-Track: No referral/dropped after any missed hours Medical Billing & Coding: Referral at 12 hours/dropped at 17 hours

  18. Record of “up to date” immunizations • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) • TD/Tdap(tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) • Varicella (unless you have had the chickenpox) • Hep B (for some sites, it is a requirement) • Flu shot (get shot between 9/15 and 10/15) • You must bring all records by deadline shared at orientation Note: Some sites may require two step TB (KMC) Mandatory immunization requirements
