Poland’s Development Cooperation with Afghanistan • Over 100 bilateral projects worth USD 14 million were implemented from 2002 to 2009, • In 2010 over 30 projects worth 7.8 million USD, • Polish Component in PRT Ghazni, NGOs, Polish Embassy, multilateral aid (ARTF, WFP, UNODC).
Priority sectors of Polish Aid Aid distributed according to sectors and geographical availability. • Good governance; • Development of the city and province of Ghazni; • Rural development and agriculture; • Small and medium-sized enterprises (professional mobilization of women).
Polish presence in Afghanistan • Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kabul, • Polish component (13 specialists) and 3 diplomats at PRT Ghazni, • Polish NGOs (Education for Peace Association, Polish Humanitarian Organisation, Polish Medical Mission).
Challenges and lessons learned • Capacity building of sub-provincial and provincial administration (study visits, local training, consulting), • Security hinders project implementation.
Challenges and lessons learned • Poverty and conflict, • Conflicts could be described as a reversed development, • Civilian solution to military operations.
