  3. Shapes • Organic shapes Organic shapes are shapes with a natural look and a flowing and curving appearance. For this reason, they are often also referred to ascurvilinear shapes. Examples of organic shapes include the shapes of leaves, plants, and animals. Basically rounded shapes which are too irregular to be quite geometric.

Shapes Shapes • Primary shapes (geometric) The circle generates the sphere and cylinder Triangle  produces the cone and pyramid Square  forms the cube The circle, triangle and square generate volumes known as "platonic solids.“ Combinations of these platonic solids establish the basis for most architectural shapes and forms.

Squares, cubes, and parallelepipeds. · These are the most basicand employed shapes of construction.· The parallelepiped is the most common shape in buildings.· One of the structural systemswhere we can find these figures is in porches and trusses construction.· If we take off some parts of these basic shapes we can create new designs.· Materials such as bricks, concrete and wood can be shaped in these forms for construction.· Beams and columns usually come in these shapes.· Indoors, we can also find these figures in interior designs such as closets, doors, windows and shelves.

  7. . Squares, cubes, and parallelepipeds.Quadrilaterals *A quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides. *The most common quadrilaterals are the parallelogram, rectangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, and trapezoid.

  8. A*parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides. Rhombus or rhomb: all four sides are of equal length. Equivalent conditions are that opposite sides are parallel and opposite angles are equal, or that the diagonals perpendicularly bisect each other. Rhomboid: a parallelogram in which adjacent sides are of unequal lengths and angles are oblique (not right angles). Rectangle: all four angles are right angles. An equivalent condition is that the diagonals bisect each other and are equal in length. Informally: "a box or oblong" (including a square). Square (regular quadrilateral): all four sides are of equal length (equilateral), and all four angles are right angles. An equivalent condition is that opposite sides are parallel (a square is a parallelogram), that the diagonals perpendicularly bisect each other, and are of equal length. A quadrilateral is a square if and only if it is both a rhombus and a rectangle (four equal sides and four equal angles).

  9. Circles, cylinders, spheres and arches · Circles represent continuity.· We can appreciate circles in cylindrical beams and columns. On the other hand, we can also find circles in tunnels entrances, and piazzas with this shape. Arches can be found in structural systems of trusses.· There is a famous arch construction, which is actually a porch: The Triumphal Arch.· The semi-spheres create important structural systems such as paraboloids and domes.· Dome is a representative structure that symbolizes religion.· Circle is commonly found in staircases.· Bridges forms are usually circles or spheres.

  10. Circles Circles are simple closed curves which divide the plane into two regions, an interior and an exterior. In everyday use, the term "circle" may be used interchangeably to refer to either the boundary of the figure, or to the whole figure including its interior; in strict technical usage, the circle is the former and the latter is called a disk.

  11. Triangleand pyramid * A triangleis a polygon that has three sides.· The most important structural system for this shape is trusses. Most of the trusses have this shape.· There are many triangle junctions used on the construction of paraboloids.· But we can’t talk about pyramids without naming the Egypt pyramids, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.· Another famous pyramidal structure is the Louvre Museum, made with glass in France.· One of the advantages of building with triangles is that they help structural design to be more profitable and attractive.

  12. Triangle A triangle is one of the basic shapes of geometry: a polygon with threecorners or vertices and three sides or edges which are line segments.
