  1. Review of institutionalisation Please complete the work included on the PowerPoint before next week’s lesson.

  2. Task 1: Make notes on these review questions: • Identify the sample in Rutter’s study. • Outline the findings of Rutter’s study. • Give one strength of Rutter’s research. • What was the aim of Hodges and Tizard’s research? • What research methodology was used? • What was the IV and DV? • What were the findings of H and T’s research? • Give one weakness of H and T’s research. • Identify and explain two factors that affect recovery from institutionalisation. • Are the effects of institutionalisation reversible?

  3. Task 2 • Download the study by Hodges and Tizard from the link in your booklet and make notes on the APFC and evaluation (2 strengths and 2 weaknesses).

  4. Task 3 • Using the hand-out from last week on Rutter’s study, make notes in the table on your booklet on the factors that affect the effects of institutionalisation. • Make sure you have notes on the APFC for Rutter’s study in your booklet and notes on evaluation as well (2 strengths and 2 weaknesses).

  5. Task 4: Plan your answers to the following 12 mark questions. Each plan should be ½ side of A4 to be handed in next lesson 1. Psychologists have studied children who have lived in institutions such as orphanages. Outline and evaluate research into the effects of institutionalisation. (12 marks) 2. Failure to form attachments is known as privation. Outline and evaluate research into privation. (12 marks)

  6. Task 5: Optional exam question: • Research has suggested that institutionalisation can have negative effects on children. In the 1990s, many children were found living in poor quality orphanages in Romania. Luca had lived in one of these orphanages from birth. When he was four years old, he was adopted and he left the orphanage to live in Canada. His development was then studied for a number of years. • Outline possible negative effects of institutionalisation on Luca. (4 marks)

  7. Task 6: Make a mind map of everything studied so far in attachment this term: • Check your specification and notes so that you include everything.

  8. Homework: • Read pages 52 and 53 in your textbook and make your own set of notes on day care to hand in next lesson. • If you have any questions, please email me or see me in the Psychology office BEFORE next week’s lesson.
