  3. What Is the Pay Gap? The earnings ratio and the pay gap for 2012 are calculated using these formulas: women’s median earnings Earnings ratio = = 77% men’s median earnings [men’s median earnings – women’s median earnings] = 23% Pay gap = men’s median earnings
