Name: Grant Iversen___________ Date:__3-14-14_ Read the 3 page explanation of how the Spyro the Dragon was created and what types of decisions regarding color and art the developers made and why. Pay attention to the amount of detail that a graphic artist has to be aware of when designing a game. The game not only should look “cool”, it should be different than a competing game and convey the emotion of a particular point of the game, such as danger or victory. While reading the tutorial, answer the following questions: What was the original color for Spyro? Green__________ What color did Spyro change to? purple_____ Why? because he blended in too much to the background ______________________________________________ On page 2, there are 3 examples of different skies. Describe the differences in each:_ one is a sunrise, one is a blue sky, and one is a red sky. the sunrise is most peaceful, the blue sky is "enchanting" and the red sky is the evilest one. Which sky do you like best? ____the sunrise one____ Which one seems most dangerous? The red sky one __ According to the author, what is the simplest way to show game players the “safe areas”?__visual landmarks and defined edges What techniques can a developer use to make sure a player doesn’t get lost? set checkpoints and gateways and specify transitions of elevation within the level What type of college degree did this author, who is also one of the Spyro developers, graduate with? artistic degree and a game design degree____________ Grant Iversen

Very playful, cheerful colors.____ _____________________________________________________________________________________ Do these colors change during the game? No If yes, how do these changes happen? (level change, score achieved, winning, losing, time loop)___No_ _____________________________________________________________________________________ What type of mood or emotion do you think the game designers are trying to have the player feel? (cartoonish, danger, frightened, fun, etc.)___fun , cartoonish look to it___ _____________________________________________________________________________________ Are the “safe areas”, boundaries and landmarks well designed - is the game easy to navigate, do you get lost?________kind of, the only boundary are the walls________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ Is there music / sound effects? Y es If yes, do they match the action and add to the game? Yes If you could redesign the game, what specific changes would you make? (5pts.) __make the ball move faster, and the paddle. 39. 4-2-14 Typed up summary for game design Things I learned in Game Design In game design we made game 1, where we learned how to make objects bounce, we learned how to add sprites(images) and how to add objects both in the game, and in a room. then in game 1A, 1B, and 1C we learned how to delete objects, make objects speed up and slowed down when clicked, and how to make an object change direction when clicked. In game 2 and 2A we learned how to set a score, make objects move with the up down keys and we learned how to add sound once an action is achieved. in game 3/3A we learned how to make a two person Game, and how to make chat appear in the game. in Game 4 we learned how to make lives, and to transition to the next room and to check sprites. in game 4A we did a little extra and added a shoot rockets ability along with a destroy all instances sprite. in game 5 we learned how to set different sprites to the same sprite, to add gravity, add parents ,how to make outside room icons, and to reset the game. and in 5A we learned how to make our own sprites and backgrounds and I learned how to invert textures. this is the stuff we learned in game design.
