  2. Overview • Reading Block schedules for Kindergarten through 3rd grade • Independent Work time • Double Dose Schedule

Kindergarten Reading Block • Reading Block is 2 – 2 ½ hours in length • Three adults in each class • Teacher, ERI assistant, Foster Grandparent • 30 minute whole group activity • Includes Opening Routines, and Teacher Read Aloud • Small group activities – 15-20 minuteseach • Includes Phonics, Word Work Activities and reading practice • Use Early Reading Intervention as supplement

Kindergarten Reading Block (continued) • All students are participating in the core reading program at varying levels. • All students receive ERI. • We use strategies from the IBR II to enhance the program as needed. • This year we plan on using the 1st Grade “On Level” Leveled Readers at the end of the year with our higher level students.

  5. 1st Grade Reading Block • Reading Block is 2 ½ hours in length • Two adults in each class • Teacher and Classroom Literacy Assistant • 30 minute whole group activity • Includes Opening Routines, Teacher Read Aloud, High-Frequency word activity and phonics practice

  6. 1st Grade Reading Block (continued) • Small Group activities – 30 minutes each • Includes Phonics activities, Word Work activities, and reading practice • All students are participating in the core reading program at varying levels. • We use strategies from the IBR II to enhance the program as needed. • Supplemental programs • Touchphonics ERI • Road to the Code Read Naturally

  7. 2nd-3rd Grade Reading Block • Reading Block is 100 minutes in length • Two adults in each class • Teacher and Classroom Literacy Assistant • 30 minute whole group activity • Includes comprehension strategies, Teacher Read Aloud, and phonics/structural analysis activities

  8. 2nd-3rd Grade Reading Block (continued) • Small group activity – 30 minutes each • Teacher works with two groups each day • All students are participating in the core reading program at varying levels. • We use strategies from the IBR II to enhance the program as needed. • Supplemental programs • Touchphonics Read Naturally • Vocabulary for Achievement (3rd grade)

  9. Independent Work • Has to be tied to what students are working on in their reading block • Either practice or review work • Accountability attached to work

  10. Double Dose Schedule • 30 minute blocks in the afternoon • Pull out program • Students participating • Approx. 97% of all strategic students in 1st-3rd grade • 100% of all intensive students in 1st-3rd grades • Instructors are our Resource teacher, ESL teacher, Title I support teacher, Title I school coordinator • Schedule put together and monitored by our Early Reading Team
