  2. The Land • Europe is part of a large landmass called Eurasia.

  3. The Land • Europe is a large peninsula. A peninsula is a body of land that is surrounded by water on three sides.

  4. Europe has 4 major REGIONS Blue = Northern Europe Red = Eastern Europe Green = Southern Europe Light Blue = Western Europe

  5. SPAIN • The country of Spain is on the Iberian Peninsula. • Capitol = Madrid • Language = Spanish

  6. The Italian Peninsula • Italy is on the Italian Peninsula. It extends into the Mediterranean Sea. • Capital is Rome • Language =Italian

  7. United Kingdom • Location= An island to the west of main land Europe. NW of France • Capital=London • Language=English

  8. The Chunnel • The Chunnel is a tunnel that runs underneath the English Channel and connects Britain to France.

  9. Belgium • Location = Between France and Germany • Capital = Brussels • Language = French and Dutch

  10. France • Located = SE of United Kingdom and North of Spain. • Capital = Paris • Language = French

  11. Germany Location = Between France and Poland Capitol = Berlin Language = German

  12. Poland • Location = Between Germany and Ukraine • Capital = Warsaw • Language = Polish

  13. Ukraine Location = Between Russia and Poland Capital = Kiev Language = Ukrainian (Slavic)

  14. Russia • Location = North West Europe and Northern Asia • Capital = Moscow • Language = Russian

Climate and Vegetation • Europe is in the middle and high latitudes, therefore, Europe has many different types of climates. • In Northern Europe there is Tundra and Sub-arctic climates. • Most of Western Europe has a Marine West Coast climate zone. • Southern Europe has a Mediterranean climate.

  16. Climate • Wind currents and ocean currents have a large impact on the climate of Europe. A. The North Atlantic Drift is an ocean current that warms Europe. B. Europe is also warmed by wind currents called the Westerlies.
