Washing dyed canvas fabric, is it ok? KNOW YOUR FABRICS SERIES
Washing dyed canvas Is it recommended? Short answer: No. KNOW YOUR FABRICS SERIES
WASHING DYED CANVAS - 1 As a thumb rule, we do not recommend washing dyed canvas fabric because it could significantly impact the fabric. Mostly “direct dyes” are used to dye canvas fabric. In comparison to “reactive dyes”, they have less color fastness to washing. So, the chance of a color bleed is significantly high. KNOW YOUR FABRICS SERIES
WASHING DYED CANVAS - 2 Bright and dark colors are more prone to color bleeding than the lighter colors. Washing (note: in moderation) a white or a pastel shade like tan/pale yellow etc. that is direct dyed may be agreeable. But colors like black, burgundy, red etc. are unforgiving. They will bleed. We simply recommend gently wiping the fabric with a moist white cloth and hang dry, away from sunlight. KNOW YOUR FABRICS SERIES
WASHING DYED CANVAS - 3 Using detergents, bleaching agents, softeners, conditioners etc. can affect the rate of color bleed. When you add hand wash Vs machine wash, wringing or spinning in a dryer, higher temperature dry Vs hang dry – there are simply a lot of variables that are beyond our control. Under such circumstances, It would be impractical for us to give out a specific washing instruction or warranty. KNOW YOUR FABRICS SERIES
WASHING DYED CANVAS - 4 The user is expected to exercise sound judgement before making the right choice of fabric for the user's end use. If you need dyed canvas fabric that can withstand washing well, you can opt for a customized dye/finish that works nicely with your requirement. KNOW YOUR FABRICS SERIES
WASHING DYED CANVAS - 5 Also you can get Dyed Poly-Cotton Twills which are reactive/disperse dyed. They can be machine washed and machine dried (in a home setting, under normal conditions without any additional bleach or detergent). For bright colors we still recommend testing as a hand wash first before throwing into a washer. KNOW YOUR FABRICS SERIES
