  3. It’s important to take a proactive approach that helps you clear your mind enough to do your best work.

  4. H e r e a r e n i n e s t r a t e g i e s f o r g e t t i n g s t a r t e d !

  5. 1 1 Ki l l t h e mo n k e y . The “monkey mind” is a dangerous mindset where you let the thoughts in your head negatively impact the task you’re currently working on.

  6. J o t d o wn the negative thought on a piece of paper, then explore the idea when you’re not focused on a specific task.

  7. This will teach you the d i s c i p l i n e necessary to kill the monkey that often pops into your head.

  8. 2 2 C l o s e o u t e ma i l . Email that is open all the time is too tempting.

  9. Master your email by designating s p e c i f i c t i me s for it; otherwise it will master you.

  10. 1 Schedule “ i n b o x t i me ” for the end of each workday, long after you’ve completed high-energy-level tasks.

  11. 3 3 F i n d t h e r i g h t n o i s e l e v e l s . Some people need absolute silence, while others need white noise to block out distracting sounds in their environment.

  12. If you like to listen to music, e x p e r i me n t with different styles until you find one that helps you be more productive with each type of task.

  13. 4 4 Ma n a g e ( o r a v o i d ) me e t i n g s . Most meetings are an incredible waste of time and human resources.

  14. Either avoid meetings when you can or look for ways to s t r e a ml i n e the entire process.

  15. - Conduct meetings standing up. - Set an agenda for the meeting. - Put a time limit on each topic. - Only invite people to the meeting if they absolutely need to be there.

  17. Multitasking r e d u c e s creativity, causes a higher ratio of mistakes and makes it harder to remember important details.

  18. Work on o n e a c t i v i t y at a time and nothing else.

  19. 6 6 Kn o w h o w t o d e a l wi t h i n t e r r u p t i o n s . Interruptions range from minor irritations to major problems.

  20. What separates the successful people from everyone else is knowing h o w t o h a n d l e interrruptions when they occur.

  21. - Accept the fact that interruptions will happen. - Create interruption buffers. - Choose the items that always merit interrupting you. - Give yourself a break. - Rediscover your motivation. - Start over.

  22. 7 7 L e a r n t o s a y n o . Whenever you say “yes” to a request, you say “no” to something else in your life.

  23. Practice the “ y e s , b u t ” method for some people you feel you can’t say no to, such as a boss.

  24. This approach affirms the person and opportunity without forcing you to give in to a request that i s n ’ t r i g h t for you.

  26. Focus on the tasks that can only be done by y o u and delegate the rest to others.
