Suitcase Flights? • Suitcase flights are feasible for DC-8. • From Grand Forks, DC-8 can reach all of Canada, Alaska, Greenland, and Sweden. • Not sure about other aircraft. • Logistics Issues • Need to secure quick lodging. • Need to deal with double-lodging. • Would need to work diplomatic clearances accordingly. • Overflight. • Customs and visas. • Little or no lab/logistic support at overnight site.
Site Planning Considerations • Spring Campaign • Hangars • Summer Campaign • Need for aircraft co-location? • General • Foreign nationals at military installations • Russian airspace clearances
ESPOAnticipated upcoming activities • Mission plan, schedule, & budget • Deployment site surveys • Host agreements & clearances (e.g., military, foreign) • Coordinate overflight & diplomatic clearances • Suborbital Flight Request • Facilities & Accommodations • Shipping & Logistics • Mission site set-up & operations • Web sites, public affairs & outreach
Site Survey Schedule • Initial Site Surveys • Sweden - April 2007 • Alaska & Canada - May 2007 • Follow-up visits for detailed logistics planning - Aug/Sep 2007
