Crime Scenes13a – Washago, Ontario • Dec 18, 2005 – 12-day training camp hosted by AHMAD and AMARA East of Washago, ON, near the abandoned town of Cooper's Falls, ON • 10 adults and 4 youths were present • AMARA and AHMAD recorded the camp training on video to send to jihadi leaders • AHMAD brought CHAND and informant SHAIKH to serve as trainers due to some past military experience • Some attendees, particularly the youths, were originally under the impression that it was a religious retreat

Crime Scenes13a – Washago, Ontario • DURRANI, who was already known for distributing Muslim literature, volunteered to join the group and serve as a recruiter • ANSARI, classmate, neighbour and friend to AMARA attended the camp and offered his technical abilities to the group • JAMAL, caretaker and prayer leader at the Ar-Raham Islamic Centre where AMARA and AHMAD would occasionally attend was the oldest attendee at 42 and would later be accused of being the ringleader of the Toronto 18. • AHMAD wanted to camp to simulate the Arab Mujahideen in Chechnya, with the objective of killing non-believers • Several paintball guns and over 2000 rounds of paintballs were brought for target practice, handled by several of the attendees (see photograph evidence) • AMARA had also brought an illegal 9mm Luger pistol which other attendees practised firing

Crime Scenes13a – Washago, Ontario • SHAIKH purchased ammunition for the pistol • Most of the camp team were poorly prepared for conditions, lacking proper clothing and shelters • Camp team would frequent a nearby Tim Horton's for food and bathroom breaks while in fatigues • A recluse living nearby would regularly view what the camp team was doing • AHMAD delivered a series, including a declaration that “we are not officially al-Qaeda, but share their principles and methods”

Crime Scenes13a – Washago, Ontario • When camp concluded, campers cleaned up spent casings, paintballs and garbage • Unknown to the campers, including the informant SHAIKH, the entire camp was monitored by over 200 surveillance officers from several agencies set up in a nearby motel • Ammunition casing and used paintball pellets were discarded in garbage bags into a dumpster at a Dollarama in the nearby city of Orillia • SHAIKH would later conclude that “Fahim was no amateur, it was the kids who were amateurs”

Crime Scenes13b – Opasatika, ON • Opasatika, Ontario • Location: About 11 hours North of Toronto, along Ontario Highway 11 • Nicknamed “Opaz” • Primary Language: French • Population in 2006: 280 (in 128 private dwellings) • Economy: Formerly a mill town, but decline in Ontario's forestry have closed the mill and town is in decline

Crime Scenes13b – Opasatika, ON • Nov 2005 – AMARA travelled to Opasatika, over 10 hours North of Toronto, scouting for a safe house and a training site. • AMARA makes enquires with the OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources • Jan 2006 – AHMAD searches real estate listings for a safe house to store a weapons cache and as a hideout for AHMED and SADEQUEE • AHMAD finds an 8 bedroom property for sale in Opasatika for $13,900

Crime Scenes13b – Opasatika, ON • Feb 4, 2006 – AHMAD rents a van and drives himself, DURRANI, CHAND and SHAIKH over 10 hours to view the house for sale in Opasatika • Rental van is wired with surveillance equipment from investigators • AHMAD states that he wants to set up a Chechnya style resistance house that would be easy to defend with snipers and booby-traps • AHMAD claimed to have placed a $4000 deposit on several high-power firearms and grenades from Mexico • AHMAD also contacted DIRIE in prison (for gun smuggling) to attempt to gain contacts in prison to secure firearms, using codewords “We need wives that can handle themselves... Everybody's gotta have like two, three, four wives” • Upon returning to Toronto, the group met with AMARA for a debrief. AMARA beginning to distance himself and was working on bomb detonators at this point

Crime Scenes13b – Rockwood Conservation Area • May 20, 2006 – AHMAD, now split from AMARA, holds a second training camp in the Rockwood Conservation Area, ON for “elite” members • AHMAD and DURRANI lead the group of about 10 participants, most of them youths • Mock terrorist videos were made with AHMAD attempting to incite giggles from members • Several members felt they were going to be arrested after the arrest of AHMED and SADEQUEE in the previous months • This group did not consist of any firearms training, the group had 2 hunting knives • Training focused on covert operations, including a night-time hike • Most time spent hiking and relaxing

Place of InterestSalaheddin Islamic Centre • Location: 741 Kennedy Road, Toronto, ON (formerly Scarborough) • Founded in 1996 • Attended by AHMAD, AMARA, CHAND, JAMES, DIRIE, MOHAMED • AHMAD distributed videos documenting 9/11 hijackers in front of centre • 2004 - AMARA was married by Imam Aly Hindy • 2004 - Administrator, IBRAHIM signs DIRIE'S Canadian passport application as guarantor

Place of InterestSalaheddin Islamic Centre • Founders included Hassan Farhat, believed to be a high ranking member of Ansar-al-Islam and associated with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, both know affiliates of al-Qaeda • Principal of mosque school was Mahmoud JABALLAH, alleged senior member of terrorist group Egyptian Islamic Jihad (formerly al-Jihad) • Lead by controversial Imam Aly HINDY, noted for his connections to KHADR family and fundamentalist teachings • Several members of the KHADR family are known to attend worship at the Salaheddin Islamic Centre, including the late Ahmed KHADR who had been connection to Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda • Ahmed KHADR set up a health and education charity listing the Salaheddin Islamic Centre as a partner; this group would later be accused of funding Afghani training camps • Regularly monitored by CSIS

Place of Interestar-Rahman Islamic Centre • Location: 6120 Montevideo Road, Mississauga, ON • Attended by JAMAL, AMARA, ABDELHALEEM, and informant ELOSHEMY • Small, storefront style prayer room for 40-50 families • JAMAL served as custodian, janitor and bus driver was known to give heated anti-Western Jihad style speeches • 2005 – Member of Parliment, Wajid KHAN, attended one of JAMAL'S speeches, ending in an altercation
