INTRODUCTION • In line with the recommendations of the 7th RCM, SROs to initiate SRCMs • To improve the coordination of UN support to the AU-NEPAD at the sub-regional level • To create synergies among UN agencies and other development partners • To support the priorities of RECs in line with their strategies visions • SRCM: to be anchored on MYPs • To enable UN Agencies to deliver as One

  4. INTRODUCTION (2) • Decision was taken during the 11th RCM to operationalize the SRCM in the ECA sub-regions • Efforts that started in SROs was accelerated: • SRCM Western and Central Africa • SRCM Eastern and Southern Africa

STATUS TO DATE (1) SRCM Western and Central Africa • SRO-WA and SRO-CA held HLM on October 5-6, 2011, Dakar • Meeting attended by : • UN Agencies : ITU, WHO, UNDP, UNICEF, UNEP, UNHCR, UNIDO, WFP, UNESCO, UNWOMEN, UNODC & UNECA • RECs : ECOWAS & ECCAS • IGOs: UEMOA, MRU, WAMI, EBID, etc • Other representatives from: AfDB, JICA, WAPP, COMIFAC, ADEA, ALG, COREP, TWN, ECREEE, PEAC, ISTA, CEBEVIRHA, COPIL/CER-AC, CILSS, etc.

STATUS TO DATE (2) SRCM Eastern and Southern Africa • SRO-EA and SRO-SA held Task Force Meeting (5-6 July) on the SRCM with: • COMESA, IGAD, SADC, EAC, AUC, AfDB ,WHO, UNDP, UNEP, UNHCR,UNIDO, UNESCO, UNODC, UNECA Divisons, CEPGL, ICGLR, IOC, NBI, NC-TTC, Central Corridor • SRCM for Eastern and Southern Africa officially launched on 19th November 2011

KEY OUTCOMES (1)SRCM Western and Central Africa • Decision to establish multi-agency & multi-stakeholder Task Force to work on the operationalization of the SRCM • Task Force for Western & Central Africa to complete its work within six months. • RECs’ MYPs and multi-partner programmes, should serve as entry points to SRCM interventions • MYPs should be aligned to the TYCBP and the priorities and needs of RECs/IGOs,

KEY OUTCOMES (2)SRCM Western and Central Africa • Deliberations of the SRCM & RCM should be as inclusive & participatory as possible: involve the media, CSO, private sector & others • KM should be mainstreamed into the SRCM • Strong partnerships for joint resource mobilization should be pursued – consider setting a Trust Fund • SRCM should assist member States implement their regional protocols & treaties on RI

KEY OUTCOMES (3) SRCM Eastern and Southern Africa • SRCM Matrix of Areas of Focus 2012-2016, was adopted on November 19, 2011 • Matrix aimed to inform the Formulation of SRCM Business Plan • 2012-2013 outputs on TYCBP will support the SRCM • Matrix constitute the basis for 2014-2015 work program

KEY OUTCOMES (4)SRCM Eastern and Southern Africa • Existing MYPs have been collapsed in the SRCM Matrix, to be the single instrument to support the RECs • Streamlining of interventions and clear division of labor between the SRCM and the RCM clusters to be fast tracked • The RECs Co-Chairpersonship to be effective for two years

NEXT STEPS (1) • Task Force meeting of SRCM (WA-CA) to be held in mid-January 2012, in Dakar • Key objectives of the meeting: • Agree on the number & composition of themes for 2012-13; • Assign roles & responsibilities to UN agencies & other partners; • Implement monitoring & evaluation mechanisms; reporting line; KM & information sharing; • Establish working modalities with the RECs & IGOs based on their programmes priorities; and • Ensure joint programming & implementation of activities in support of the RECs & IGOs in West & Central Africa based on One Single MYP

  12. NEXT STEPS (2) • Existing MYPs (WA and CA) to be collapse into the SRCM Matrix, which will be the single instrument to support the RECs • Business Plan for SRCM ( EA-SA) to be ready by June 2012 • Next SRCM (EA-SA) in July 2012
