LAST WEEK – October 4th INVOCATION PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE John Meserve – Running For Mayor of Atlantic Beach This Fall Greetings, fellow Kiwanians and guests. Heavenly Father: Help us to hear the silent cries for help of those around us. Make us less busy and more compassionate toward those who hurt and to realize that those who deserve love least need it most. And now bless this food to our use, and us to Your service. Amen “My background consists of 27 years in the Navy as a Naval Aviator, including two combat tours of duty in Vietnam, Commanding Officer of an Aircraft Squadron, various ship tours including Executive Officer of the USS Iwo Jima, and ending my Navy career as Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Mayport. I successfully transitioned to civilian life, spending three years as Executive Director of the Beaches Chamber of Commerce followed by nearly 15 years as Executive Director of Fleet Landing, a Retirement Community serving 550 seniors located in Atlantic Beach. My civic involvement includes 10 years as Commissioner and Mayor of Atlantic Beach, service on many local Boards including Volunteer Beaches; The “American Red Cross Life Saving Corps” of which I have run the annual ARCLSC ocean marathon since 1989; the Mayport Water Front Partnership, and am currently the Chairman of the Military Issues Committee of the Chamber of Commerce.” Whether you are a new member or an old salt of our benevolent organization, I hope you always remember to look at our club with a fresh pair of eyes. I hope you will use the vast resources of our club to help those YOU think are in need. When you see or learn of someone in need, don't let that thought end as a good intention; rather, think of Kiwanis and ask yourself, "how can WE help?" Take for example, Corky Borders. After years of active service, Corky has put this principal into action by volunteering to chair our Community Service Committee. I'm sure he could use your help to execute his aggressive service calendar. In the month of October make a goal to come up with one small way you can further include Kiwanis in your life. Maybe even make a bigger goal to share the purpose of Kiwanis with three other people before the end of October. Go Gators, Neil From: “Invocations for Kiwanis Occasions” by James J.
