1. “The Refrigerator” Introduction By: ADream Dewitt Townes Period 8/9

2. Introduction • The refrigerator : • First named or called The Icebox • Something that was created many years ago • Became one of he greatest inventions of all times • Used to preserve and to store items • At first used to just keep things cold • Now to freezes as well, and we cant live without

3. The Inventor • There were more than a few inventors that filed patents for the invention of the refrigerator. • In 1880 there were over 3000 patents • However William Cullen invented the process in 1748 • The first inventor of the refrigerator was known to be Oliver Evans in 1805 (never built) • Jacob Perkins invented more practical improvements in 1834. (built it)

4. Refrigeration before refrigerator • The process of removing heat from an enclosed space, or from a substance, to lower its temperature • Uses the evaporation of a liquid to absorb heat • There were many ways to create refrigeration • Maryland engineer named Thomas Moore thought of the name refrigerator • wasn't until 1911, however, that General Electric introduced a true home refrigerator

5. Before the refrigerator and refrigeration • Before it, there was the icebox • A large wood box, often made of oak or walnut • Did not run on electric or any coolant • The Chinese were reportedly the first to create blocks of ice about 1000 BCE. • Was the size of modern refrigerator • Internal wired shelves held the food.

6. timeline • BC-1700 = involved cutting and storing ice for refrigeration • 1720 – 1918 = continuously remakes of the refrigerator among different ways • 1918 = refrigerator purchased by General Motors and renamed Frigidaire • 1918 Electro-Automatic Refrigerating Company renamed Kelvinator • 1920 = by then there was almost 200 refrigerator on the market • 1927 first refrigerator to see widespread use was the General Electric (G.E) "Monitor-Top" refrigerator.

7. Timeline (continuation) • 1930 first built-in refrigerator is launched by Electrolux • 1937 more than 2 million Americans owned refrigerators. • 1939 refrigerator with one section for frozen food and a second for chilled food, introduced by G. E • 1947 GE two-door refrigerator-freezer combination • 1955 80% of American homes now have refrigerators • 2005 A domestic refrigerator is present in 99.5% of American homes

8. Area of interaction • Human Ingenuity • Human ingenuity allow people to focus on the evolution, process and products of human creativity and their impact on life and society. • The refrigerator invention, have a great impact on society. We people all use it in everyday life. Which was created by a human. Later on inspired for other people to recreate it and to make it better. • In this way, human ingenuity goes beyond the act of creation alone, leading students to examine, experience and reflect on the creative process

9. summary • The refrigerator is a very good invention as of today • Before mechanical refrigeration systems were introduced, people cooled their food with ice and snow, either found locally or brought down from the mountains. • Now there are many different refrigerator, brought from many different store, shipped from many different warehouses. Now people cool and freeze their food and beverages with the science of technology.
